Smart spenders? - I don't think so
There was a new show called "Smart Spenders", which as the name suggests is meant to be halping this nation of overspenders.
Well it's a good job I was sitting on the floor or I think I would have fallen off my chair with some of the stuff that was on this show. (which wasn't very good btw).
There were 5 people living in this house, parents and 3 kids, well kids of over 20, around 19 and around 17 I would say (I missed the very start).
They spent £500 a month on cigarettes about the same on going out, £600 on groceries and £160 on take away food. (To put this into perspective DH and I spent less than £50 last month on food).
An example of what was on the show
They went to the supermarket and bought apples when they have an orchard in their garden!!! So the daughter (who is at university), decided to make toffee apples. Part way through she realised that she didn't have sticks to put the apples on, so she melted down some ice lollies to use the sticks.
DH and I were just agog at this show - and the people thought they'd done really well at the end of it. They didn't learn a thing. The presenter didn't help by going through their pantry and throwing away packets of instant mashed potato - this is meant to be a thrift expert! Talk about cutting your nose off to spite your face. It was unbelieveable, my stress levels must have gone through the roof watching it.

That's a nutso program for sure. They should have named the show Stupid Spenders.

How ludicrous is right. I never can figure out why these types of shows don't bring some of us "frugal gurus" on. Would make a whole lot more sense to me.

I too hope BBCAmerica shows it. Are you sure it wasn't satire?

Sadly I think it was serious. It was so bad I can't wait til next week to see what I learn about how to waste money.
It was the funniest thing that's been on tv all week though.
