we're all sick
Zachary started with sniffles yesterday and that turned into a vomit fest today. I started with a sore throat and that yucky stuffy feeling and it's now non stop sneezing and pressure in my head. Gabe has the whole runny nose sicky thing, and Ally is just starting sniffles.
Why is this in hometown news? Wellll, I decided to go to Walgreens and get a stash of cold/flu medication to cover about every symptom under the sun in case my cold gets really bad. With us all being sick, I want to be sure we're stocked up. lol
Anyway, so I had a few items and the cashier tells me as I check out that I can only buy 2 at a time as per the new law.
She then proceeded to tell me that soon they may have items in the pharmacy and customers may have to show id to be able to purchase them.
It seems there is a little meth issue.
Now that's fine and dandy, but here's what she does in my case.
She tells me all of this and then says she has to do two transactions because their system won't accept that many cold medications in one transaction.
Sooooo, basically what good is this little law? I was too sick to voice my opinion. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. New laws suck, big time. I think the vast majority of us are quite capable of managing our own lives.
Sara, I hope you and your family feel better soon.

I agree with Rhonda too. You know, last Dec. when I needed to renew my prescriptions, I asked for 3 months worth to save me the drive every month. They did the one, but my Celebrex they wouldn't. Wonder if it has anything to do with new laws? It is an anti-inflammatory drug for arthritis.
Hope you all feel better real soon Sara.

First I hope your all feeling better soon Sara. If its anything like we have in our home, its a long process.
These new laws are driving me nuts. Don't they think were all capable of making right decisions. And besides, the clerk didn't obey the law anyways. I'm shaking my head here. We have the same stuff happening in Canada. Its ridiculous.

First of all... Sara, I hope you and your family are feeling better soon. It's miserable when everyone is sick at once!
Well, let me be the voice of opposition here... I actually like the new laws. That's probably because a good friend of ours, a police officer who works with DH, could have been blown up a while back while investigating a meth lab-- instead of an explosion, though, the night ended in gunfire and one person was killed.
Around here, the news is full of stories of meth labs that are supplied with tons and tons of over the counter cold medicine as one of their main ingredients. To me, limiting how many boxes you can buy at a time makes sense-- sure, the clerk might bend the rules and sell you four today, but, if you come back in an hour wanting four more, she wouldn't do it. Before the new laws, you [a generic "you", that is!] could have filled your cart and had your meth lab supplied all in one easy shopping trip. Now, you've got to drive all around town getting two or four boxes at a time. It takes a lot more than two boxes at a time to make it worth your time. It might not stop the meth labs, but, anything that at least slows them down considerably is good in my view.
Ok, I'll get off of my
now.

The thing I don't understand about the regulation is that it covers everything with the pseudoephedrine in it..... So TYlenol Sinus is one of the regulated meds (just for an example). But how does the meth maker get the pseudoephedrine out of the compound drug? I thought they were only able to use the straight stuff. I am probably exhibiting my naivete or under-education, but this is something I just don't understand.
Don't get me wrong --- I am all for getting the meth makers out of the way. We had a toddler die in our town recently when he drank the kerosene his daddy had in a soda bottle for the meth lab. A very sad case.
I hope everyone is on the mend Sara. It a rotten time of the year to be sick. (I had the tummy woes your son has in early May --- and it was wretched! I missed 2 days of work)~~Jean~~
