    Default Oprah's book club

Has anyone read any of her book club selections? I've read a few and now I'm thinking about reading the new selection = William Faulkner's book. They have choosen 3 books for the summer....
    1. As I Lay Dying - June
    2. The sound and the Fury - July
    3. Light in August - August

I've never been involved with a book club so I might give this a try. I also like the fact you can interact with different professors to discuss these novels.

Have any of you read any of these particular novels? I won't buy them from the store - I'll just pick them up at the library.

Daphne, when she first started her bookclub a number of years ago, I tried to read a couple of her picks. I found they weren't my type of books.

I would though, love to join a bookclub if I had a chance, especially if they had a variety of books, rather than just a specific kind.

Let us know if you do this.

I saw this morning that her 3 books for the summer book club are on sale at Amazon.com for around $19 compared to the $29 if someone is interested in getting them. I'm going to the library tomorrow and pick up the first one in this series. If I enjoy it I might think about buying the set but I like FREE compared to $19!!

Daphne, I read As I Lay Dying when I was doing my Literature degree, it was one of the course books. William Faulkner is a fine American author but quite difficult to read. A I Lay Dying is written in "stream of consciousness" which is like thought streaming out of someone's head. Once you get the gist of it it's fine but heavy going to start off with.

I hope I didn't put you off and I hope you enjoying reading the books.

I love Wally Lamb, but other than that I was seriously disappointed in her early picks so stopped.

    But let us know.

And if anyone wanted to do one here I would be very interested.
