25,000 jobs gone by 2008 - will if affect you?

In the long run, it will probably affect more than the GM workers. The union has already mentioned how it will affect some cities in Canada.
Will this affect you in anyway?

I don't know how it would affect me directly, but I can imagine that the loss of this many jobs would have a big effect on the economy --- all downstream so to speak.
IMHO most of these jobs will be eventually re-established "off shore" somewhere.~~Jean~~

No, but I certainly feel bad for those who are affected.
My dad worked at GM in Detroit, before I was born. Several of his cousins also worked there and later retired.
I heard that sales of their SUVs are down by 24%.
I would guess that's because of high gas prices. We have a Suburban, which we rarely drive, for that very reason.

Dixie I would think that is the main reason as well as the costs of SUV's. With gas has high as it is and not expected to go down anytime soon, I would think people would be thinking smaller cars.

I just feel so bad for the people who will lose their jobs! There are hardly any decent paying jobs around as now and over half of them have no skill except what they did at the plant. I think about their families and how they will have to take a large paycut. Personally, myself I think they were being paid to much, but that's not the point.
