Default Help save PBS- and my husband's job (Sign the petition)

I have no idea where something like this goes, so I am putting it here since it is TV.

"A House panel has voted to eliminate all public funding for NPR and PBS, starting with "Sesame Street," "Reading Rainbow," and other commercial-free children's shows. If approved, this would be the most severe cut in the history of public broadcasting, threatening to pull the plug on Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.

Sign the petition telling Congress to save NPR and PBS:

    http://www.moveon.org/publicbroadcasting

If we can reach 250,000 signatures by the end of the week, we'll put Congress on notice. After you sign the petition, please pass this message along to any friends, neighbors or co-workers who count on NPR and PBS."

Thanks, Jean, for posting this info.

Thanks- I fixed the link in the first post, too.

I don't know how in danger DH is- he has lasted through two rounds of lay-offs in the last couple years (one scary one right after DD was born.) He is a money-maker there so he might be fine, but it is hard to tell around there. A friend was actually told (before he went on vacation) to call the boss on X day while he was gone. When he called that day, they told him he was laid off- so you never can tell. T hey keep things pretty hush-hush.

I would be very disappointed if PBS loses funding.

We're doing great with this so far- keep it up!

Here is an e-mail from my brother- there is contact info for your gov't reps- if you have a minute, please contact them. Too many of our friends have already lost their jobs.

"Done! And I put it a nice comment to the legislators, also. If you go to www.senate.gov and click on the "Senators" button, you can choose your state and get a link to a web form you can fill out with your comments that will be sent to your senator. I've done this quite a bit, and you'll get a reply from them, usually a formal letter if you give them your address.
If you go to http://www.house.gov/writerep/ you can enter in your zip code and write to your representative.

This helps to back up your signature on the petition and let's them know you mean business."

I hope this petition does some good, Kimberly. Its definitely for a good cause! Besides possibly losing Sesame Street, what would I do without This Old House and Antiques Roadshow?

I signed the petition as well. Wonder how many of us grew up watching Sesame Street? I did.

I get the newsletters from MoveOn.Org all the time, so I've already signed it and so did my hubby. NPR is on the alarm clock when we wake up everymorning, and PBS is one of my favorite stations, esp. on the weekends during the day.
