Good authors?
Going to the library in the morning, are there any more good authors that I should look up?

I used to work in a library so here are some very popular books from this past little while----
Alexander McCall Smith's ----#1 Ladies Detective Agency,
Sue Monk Kidd--- The secret Life of Bees, and her new one (which I'm still on hold for so no guarantee it's good) The Mermaid Chair
Reading Lolita in Tehran, also very good
Dress your familly in denim and lace--or something like that; irreverently funny by a man named sedaris
Some children's series that are worth it---
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, also she has another one set in Italy that is very good--forget the name
Anyway, hope that helps. Or atleast gives you some ideas.

I guess it all depends on what you lik.
I lik Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell for forensic stories.
I like Mary Higgins Clark for suspense.
Probably my favorite author is Ken Follett- he writes period pieces, generally historical fiction. He is an amazing storyteller. His book Pillars of the Earth is my favorite book. It is very long, but I re-read it every couple years.
Books I'ver read recently that I've liked have included The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, The Time Traveller's Wife (LOVED this,) The Lovely Bones, Shadow Divers, The Red Tent, Peter and the Star Catchers, and the Stillmeadow books.
BTW, what did you pick out?

Inkheart.
Have you ever read the old Sherlock Holmes? Or any Ruth Rendell for mysteries? I really enjoyed a series of mysteries by M.C. Beaton (Agatha Raisin and the Curious Curate,) etc.
Anyway, what kind of books do you like?

Mary Stewart's Trilogy about Merlin was good.

I've got to read something by Patricia Cornwell. I love forensics and true crime. I just remembered that I also love Ann Rule for true crime books.

Janet Evanovich! The books are hilarious easy reads although she does use some language if that bothers you. I always end up laughing until I cry with her.
Sue Grafton's alphabet mysteries are good.

Yep, it was the Thief Lord. And Inkheart, I have to say, is even better. The way she talks about words and what they can make you see in your head....it's one of my very favorite books. She really appreciates the power of words.

When I want good books to read, I go to borders.com and look thru all their books. If you search for "book clubs reads" and "fiction" you can get abuot 1000 suggestions. Then I read thru them and if it sounds good, I request it from my libary. I just got done doing this and it took me about an hour and I have 12 books on hold.
It's funny to me that some people would actually buy books from there - it was an average of $11.00 per book, plus shipping and handleing - so I saved about $150!! And it takes about a week for them to be delivered ,while my library only takes a week to gather all my requests up and get to me.
That being said -
I recommend "My sister's keeper" hands down is the best book I have ever read. Really makes you think about life and sisterhood.
Sue graton is my other favorite author - or anything about the "ya-ya's" lol
