Default Bookworms - What are you Reading?

I'm a great lover of books, and was wondering what others are reading right now? At the moment I am reading 'Pole to Pole' by Michael Palin, it's one I borrowed from the Library...

I enjoy reading a wide variety of books, and always seem to have one or two books on the go at any given time...

I'm in the middle of my summer semester of college, so my reading is more along the textbook line lol. But my English 185 (The Novel) has an interesting reading list. We just finished Indian Killer by Sherman Alexie and now we're reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

I'm reading the last in the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson.

I have a ton of books here to read over the next month. I too love reading.

I just finished: The bonesetter's Daugter, The Jade Peony & The Kitchen God's Wife.

If you liked The Good Earth these are books you might enjoy. The Jade Peony was really interesting to me as it takes place in Chinatown in Vancouver, BC about half an hour from here.

I'm reading "Status Anxiety" which I borrowed from the library. Very insightful.

Julia- I LOVE Agatha Christie. I have been reading her since I was in 5th grade. I have pretty much all of her books (although I don't have her children's books or the books she wrote under a pen name- Mary Westmaycott, or something like that.) I really like her non--ficition, too- her autobiography and her book about living in the middle east with her husband during digs. (Come Tell Me How You Live)

I just started Whiteout by Ken Follett. It is different than his usual genre- most of his books are period pieces, and I really enjoy them because he is such a powerful storyteller. His book Pillars of the Earth is without a doubt the best book I have ever read, and once I read that, I was hooked.Anyway, this book is about biolgical terrorism, I think. Not sure where it is leading yet, but a a highly lethal virus is on the loose. (Think Outbreak.)

I have a couple books ready to go- Deadly Decision by Kathy Reiches, and I am also in the middle of The Book of Stillmeadow.

I have a big pile waiting to go to the beach with me. Can't wait.

I'm re-reading "Living More with Less" by Doris Longacre-Jensen. She also wrote a wonderful cookbook called the "Living More with Less Cookbook." It's great reading too with lots of inspiration and ideas about living carefully and purposefully with the resources we have.

I'm reading "Surviving Y2K" by Boston T. Party. He's a little extremist, but its got really good info. about being prepared in general (hurricanes, floods, etc.). Lots of info. about food/water storage, etc. My brother gave it to me when he got through reading it because he thought I would enjoy it. We are very like-minded souls, although our parents think we're nuts!!

YankeeMom, I also meant to add that I LOVE Zora Neale Hurston- I have a treasury of all her known works. If you ever get a chance and can find it anywhere, Alice Walker's essay "Looking For Zora" is really touching. Zora died basically penniless and was buried in an unmarked grave, and Alice Walker made it her mission to find her. The essay appear in I Love Myself When I am Laughing and Then Again When I Am Looking Mean and Impressive. which was edited by Walker. I don't recall where else it appeared. Anyway, if you are interested in reading it, PM me.

I have read that actually, it was part of our course syllabus along with the novel itself. I wonder though, if the marker she found actually was Zora's...
    Very touching!

:OT: I wonder if it is a part of every literature syllabus LOL! I took Syracuse U. advanced classes when I was a HS senior, and that was when I took my lit class. It was part of our syllabus, too. That is actually where I "met" Zora.

We also had to read The Awakening by Kate what;s-her-name, and the first time I read it, I hated it. Now I love that book, also.
