**Spoilers *** So, what did you think of Harry Potter VI? *** spoilers
Finished it a half-hour ago.
Overall enjoyable, but *********spoilers: highlight if you want to read them:
I think Dumbledore's death is faked. On the tower, Dumbledore offered Malfoy a way for it to appear that he would be dead.
I also still trust Snape.
Somewhere along the book, I began to suspect that Snape was the half-blood prince. Of course, I also suspected a number of other people (including Lily!) Anyway, it didn't come as a shock.

my thoughts
Overall I enjoyed the book. Not sure how to hide my words so...Spoilers:
I agree with your first conclusion. I just can't believe Dumbledore would die begging for his life. Either Snape killed him to end his suffering or it's a ruse.
I did not enjoy all the "snogging" or the relationships. Ginny especially seemed fake.
I liked Harry a lot more in this book, than the last one. It seemed like he was coming into his own and not whining as much.
Great book and I can't wait for the next one!

Turn back now while you still can!...........
Well, as much as I would like to believe that Dumbledore did not die, I don't believe that to be the case. People don't tend to come back from the dead in this series- there isn't always a happy ending, and JKR strikes me as the kind of person who isn't going to make the story have one just to make people happy. Also, I still don't trust snape at all.
I'm not saying I'm right about either of these things, but that is just how I feel about it right now. I think JKR was foreshadowing for us when she wrote not once but twice, at least, that eveyone makes mistakes, including Dumbledore. I feel like the book was really unresolved- we traveled a long way down a path, then it dropped out beneath our feet and we didn't get to see what was at the end. The deneumont was not enough, I guess.
I was completely thrown for a loop by this: Snape the HBP? I usually catch on to things pretty quickly- like Malfoy's secret mission- but I never guessed that. Why doesn't Voldemort have a problem with that?????
Now we will just have to wait another couple years for the resolution!

~I figured Ginny and Harry would end up together but I didn't think it would end that quick....lol
~Still not sure if I trust Snape or if Dumbledore will come back in the last book
~Do you think the trio will miss their last year of Hogwarts or do you think they will go back
~I know this is going to sound awful, but I so (like the last book) was hoping that Malfoy would be the one to die
~Joe asked me if I thought Snape was the Half Blood Prince and when I got to the part about the book being 50 years old and when Harry said it couldn't have belong to his parents or their friends I changed my mind.....oh well
~Can't wait to find out who (or what) R.A.B. is, wonder if it could be a "Black" a relative of Sirius we haven't heard of yet
The last week or so I've been looking back thru the other books to try to find clues (I had completely forgotten that in the first book they hinted that Hagrids broken wand was in his umbrella.....hince the pig tail on Dudley, and the way he gripped it (the umbrella) when he said he kept the pieces after they snapped it (his wand) in half, then in this book he used the umbrella to put the fire out at his house.
Oh well, on few HP sites they've had rumors flying around for weeks.....so far none panned out in this book so who knows what will happen in the 7th and final book of the series.
Since I bought and read the book in the same day I guess I will now re-read GOF to get ready for that movie this Nov.

You know, that never even occurred to me, but you're right- they were at school the same time, so it shouldn't be him, but didn't someone (Hermione, maybe?) point out that the date in the book was just when it was printed?~Joe asked me if I thought Snape was the Half Blood Prince and when I got to the part about the book being 50 years old and when Harry said it couldn't have belong to his parents or their friends I changed my mind.....oh well
Sirius had a brother named Regulus Black who was a Death Eater for a while, but IIRC, he left and was killed, so it could be him. (Although he was not supposed to be a very proficient wizard, so I'm not sure how he could have gotten the horcrux, but maybe a Death Eater could??)~Can't wait to find out who (or what) R.A.B. is, wonder if it could be a "Black" a relative of Sirius we haven't heard of yet

Unless it had been is mothers (since Hermione said the written words looked like a girl did them) and she passed her book on to her son to "help" him out and he added to it.Originally posted by Kimberlina

Oh well.....all in all good book. Can't wait for the movie verision of GOF this fall.
Also, who all laughed when Ron drank the love potion.....and then I could just imagine the look on his, and everyone elses, face when Harry kissed Ginny the first time.

Enjoyed it quite a bit. I think it is a nice segway into the final book. And Harry is certainly growing up! But I love the Ron character. I can just see him with Lavender....LOL
Too bad we have to wait for the next one.
I think I need to go re-read all of them to really get the gist of everything and to pick up on the clues better. I get so involved in the story that I am notthinking and am always surprised. I actually thought the half blood prince was Voldemort.....

i am actually annoyed with JKR for killing off dumbledore. and i do think he is dead. never really trusted snape, but i didn't think he would have killed dumbledore. but i don't think this is the last we will hear from dumbledore. remember all the other previous headmasters' paintings in teh office? they all still talk and move about through the paintings and dumbledore's painting was hung in the headmaster's office at the end. harry saw him snoozing in it. i would think his picture would be put up other places as well.
and i can't say i'd be sorry if malfoy ended up dying either at harry's hands or voldemort's.wife to carl

About the painting ... in book 1, Doubledore appears in his pics on the chocolate frog cards. So, isn't it possible that he could appear in the office and still be alive?

You know....I just don't think JK would make Dumbledore so gullable (sic) to Snape so I have to believe he's alive and Snape is really on the side of "good". I think Ginny and Harry will get back together at the end of 7 if he doesn't die and she understands why he's doing what he's doing. I don't think they go back to Hogwarts in 7 even if it does open...more like a journy book I would think to find the 4 parts and then have the final showdown.
I think Ron and Hermione will FINALLY get together....he did call out her name in the infirmary. I'm hoping Fleur really is good for Bill and I'm happy for Tonks.
But I agree with everyone else...I think I need to re-read them all before the next one comes out.

My dh finished the book last night. This morning at breakast we we're talking about it and he doesn't think it's black and white, Snape is evil and he killed Dumbledore or Snape is good and he saved Dumbledore. We decided that Dumbledore is probably dead and not coming back, per se, but there's just too many unanswered questions. Dh thinks there's more to Fawkes (the phoenix) which I hadn't really thought about. He liked the book and thought that the first chapter was the weakest, just like I did.
I will definitely be reading through the entire series again, waiting for the finale.

I love, love, loved the book.
Here's my take on things going all the way back in the previous books.
~ Dumbledore IS dead. Jk said that in RL people die and in books so they must too.
~ The jury is out on whether Snape is good/evil. I don't think it is a cut and dried issue.
~ There is more to Harry's Aunt Petunia than we know.
~Sirius Black is not dead. There was never a funeral and I think it was only implied he was dead.
~ I think Draco will help the Order in the end of Voldemort's undoing.
~ I have no idea who RAB is but ,whoever said is was a Black, I hadn't thought of that.
~ Kretcher and Dobby will have larger parts in #7
Well, folks there it is. M2C

I have to agree with almost everything you said. I'm not sure Sirius is *really* dead- h is just "behind the curtain" and I'm not convinced that is the same as dead. I do think, though, that Dumbledore is dead- Harry needs to handle Voldemort's undoind completely on his own. I do think there is a lot more to be revealed about it, though. I don't like Snape and don't trust him, but Dumbledore did. Was this one of the mistakes "everbody makes" that JKR alluded two twice in the book, or is thee more to it? (Maybe Snape was under orders from Dumbledore to do anything he had to do to continue spying on the Deatheaters, including killing Dumbledore if he had to.)
I am going to read 5 and 6 again and see if anything new pops out at me.
I also had a thought this AM that it may not be magic at all that will do Voldemort in. We'll see.
