I've just watched TV news of New Orleans
It's so sad to see people wandering the streets when they know their homes and all their possessions are lost. One man I saw interviewed was wandering with two children, he lost his wife in the water.
I hope all these people get the help they need. The world thinks of the US as a strong nation capable of looking after itself but if there is anything the world community can do to help, I hope that help is forthcoming. I know my own country would be willing to extend the hand of friendly assistance.
My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones and I hope Americans support each other during this difficult time.

The devastation is unbelievable. I know just the man you refer to Rhonda. The reporter was crying as she spoke to him & I cry evertime I see that footage.
Thousands upon thousands of people have lost loved ones, homes, jobs, pets ... everything.
Thanks for your well wishes, add mine to the bunch.~*Darlene*~

I know firsthand from last year that these things bring out the worst in some people and the best in others. My thoughts are with all those affected and I'm sure hoping it brings out the best in the majority of people.

I was just so upset last night seeing all the looting etc. The poor friend I was talking online to last night had to hear me go on & on about how mad I was. I understand needing & taking food and things for survival but to see & hear about the out & out stealing of tv's, cash, jewlery just makes me sick to my stomach. Someone just mentioned somebody was raped. When the water goes down nasty no good people come in and lie and promise and take the money of people who need to rebuild and move on.Originally posted by QuilterMom

I do know that the good people outweigh the bad but it just hurts to see so many act like rabid animals. Makes me sick to my stomach.
Feeling guilty sitting here in my home with all the comforts when so many are suffering. I can send money and my hope for all all...it's just so overwhelming.
Sorry for the rant

This is where they are at now. Unfortunetly disease will be running rapid in the water within days. It is just heartwrentching.
The lloting of the food that is going to be thrown away is one thing but, looting reeboks, jewlery, tv's ect is just horrific that people can do that in time of a massive crisis.

It is so very sad. I saw the news footage of the man who lost his wife, it tore me up. What a horrible thing to have to experience. They reported that rescuers are finding bodies as they rescue people, but they can't do anything because there are still so many to get off roofs and such. And now they have to find a way to get people out of the Superdome, as the sanitary conditions are nil. These people need our prayers and help.

Hopefully people will rally the way we all did after Hurricane Andrew. I was 18 at the time, with a very part-time job. My whole paycheck that week was only $37, but I took every penny of it and bought supplies that our local Hurricane Andrew Relief Team was requesting, picked up my sister who also brought supplies along, and spent hours helping sort the stuff and load it onto trucks. It was good to be able to help even a little.
I think people will come together in the next few days and really help. It is just so unfortunate that so many stayed behind when they were urged to leave. A friend's son was going to school in the Big Easy and he got out ASAP. Now he doesn't know wha is happning with school, obvisouly, since there was so much destuction. It is so sad.

This has been on my mind a lot, too. I keep thinking about that poor guy with the wife... and all of the other people who lost everything. So sad... My dad isn't a person who expresses his feelings, but you can see he's upset about it because he sits there watching the news all night long...

it's so sad. I had to just stop watching,I was crying so much

I hate seeing all those small children, and the bodies....oh gosh...I cant handle that.
My sister will call me 20 times a day to tell me what she's seen on tv. I dont think anything has ever touched her like this has.
It's so sad. I feel sorry for all those people
