Tell me some cops don't like giving out tickets. How goofy.

How sad that we must think everyone is a "bad" guy. Guess my husband and I (no children) better not think about hanging out at a Park in NYC. We'll avert our eyes to the ground only and walk quickly in a straight line

I just love that they called for backup and that one of the officers had his hand on his gun. (Rolling my eyes.) My BIL is a detective, and I certainly understand the importance of police officers making sure they are protecting themselves, but really...calling for backup?

What also enhanced the story (if you follow the link inside it re: dialogue with the "perp") was the shoddy editing: the reference to the "kitty" (kiddie) park and the misspellings. All I could think of was a park full of cats!

My dh and I were ejected out of a park in NY, years ago. The cop just said, ' you can't hang out here!' Luckily we didn't get a ticket. Dh was just showing me the park where he played as a kid.

I understand the principle behind the law, it is a good place to start. But i think they have to make some refinements to the enforcement. There has to be a sensible resolution. I think in this case it was overkill. There is a line somewhere, just a matter of finding it. Now, I wholeheartedly believe the dance instructer should have the fines and jail time thrown out. She shouldn't get in trouble for this.

I agree! There has to be a happy medium. Maybe only allowing those with children on the benches inside the fenced area that was shown in the story. But my gosh, basically they are assuming that EVERYONE without children is trying to snatch one up! That seems unfair.
