    Default Library woes!

I went to the library last night.  One of the books I had I had already renewed once.  It was a book on tape & I had 1 1/2 tapes left of 18.  I brought it up to the counter for the guy to check it in & re-check it out for me.  I've done this a million times!  HE WOULDN'T LET ME!!  He said I have to "let others have a chance at it." Huh????  This book is like 10 YEARS OLD!! Trust me, there's no big demand for this author.  Jeesh!!  He said I could go back and if there's another copy, I could get that one.......not the one where my tape was ready to play where I was at!  So I go back, of course!  NOPE!  DUH!!  There's only one! DUH!!

So, I may try to get back there today & get that book.  Jeesh!!!!!

Ashleigh was with me & she says..."Mom, you have to SHARE!" LOL!

I could have just kept the dern thing & paid a late fee!  Then NOBODY would get a chance to read it!!!

LOL That's funny that your daughter said you have to share

I don't see the big deal on checking it in and then out again. I would go back and try it again

Wow- not nice. My librarian will always renew stuff for me. I can do it myself online for a while, then if I have had it too long, I can get her to do it. Even if it is overdue, she will renew it for me. And I can just call her up and tell her it is me and she will renew it.

Your guy doesn't sound very nice!! I am in the middle of a 10 cassette book-on-tape and Id be awfully angry if Cathy wouldn't renew it for me!!!

Yeah, normally they would do it for me. He wouldn't. Thing is, I could have just kept it & paid late fees to return it today & it still would've been cheaper than $3 gas times 2 trips!!! Argg!

I've had time to cool down now & I may just wait until I go again to get it back. I really want to know what happens, though!!

If he tells you that you can't renew it ask for his manager (whoever is in charge) that is just ridiculous that he wouldn't let you check it out again. I have been to the library a million times and never once has that happened.

I'll occasionally keep things an extra day or two- the stuff that I get on ILL that Cathy can't necessarily renew for me. (Each library has their own policy as to number of renewals, and I've never wanted to push the limit of the other libraries.)

The maximum fine for my library is $2 per item, no matter what it is- we pay .05 a day. I don't have to pay for gas to get there- we usually walk since it is only about 6 or 7 doors down, but I understand why you would want to avoid the $3 in gas- I'd have to keep something out a VERY long time before I ever even got CLOSE to that amount for a fine.

Where I work, if an item isn't on hold or is not new, you may have it again. Geeze, nobody else is waitng for it; what's the harm?

    Our maximum fine is $5.00.
