Default Oprah's Favorite Things Show Monday

Oprah's Favorite Things show will air on Monday, December 19. As in the past every member of the lucky audience will get hundreds of dollars of free stuff that the average person cannot afford to buy. Oprah has expensive tastes and acts like these things are just the greatest thing since sliced bread but does she realize who her audience is? Who can afford that expensive watch or the Burberry coat and purse? The TV guide lists a few of the Oprah things and has a quite a bit cheaper verson that is comparable to the Oprah version but more affordable for the average person.

Here is a list of her favorite things from her site:
    Philip Stein Teslar Diamond Watch
    Burberry Coat
    Burberry Purse
    UGG® Australia's Uptown Boot
Garrett Popcorn Shops' CaramelCrisp® and CheeseCorn™ Tin
    The new Apple iPod
"The Oprah Sweater" by Ralph Lauren
    Pure Color Cords
    Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker
    BlackBerry 7105Tâ„¢ from T-Mobile
    Brownies from Moveable Feast Geneva
    Nike Free 5.0 iD®
    Kashwére® Shawl Collar Robe
    Croissants from Williams-Sonoma
Hope in a Jar from Philosophy
    "Grace" Basket from Philosophy
Oatmeal Cookie Dough from Fox & Obel Market
The Oprah Winfrey Show 20th Anniversary Collection DVD
    Sony VAIO® FJ Notebook

I really don't care for that show every year. It seems like a big "clap for me, I'm so great" show. Or maybe just one big long commercial. I just find it offensive. I applaud these wealthy people for all they give to charity. But what about the widow's mite? Isn't that just as important? The ladies of my church keep a box by their dryer, or kitchen, or something and keep what we call mites in it to send into the National headquarters, and it adds up to tens of thousands of dollars for local and worldwide missions. We don't make a big publicity thing of it, except to tell our group where the money goes, so we can pray.
Well, I'll get off my soapbox, and quit harassing you all..... sorry

Thanks I've seen this show a few weeks ago but missed some of it! I checked the website about some of the stuff just to see how much it cost$$$$! I didn't know all these gifts were for Hurricane Katrina Relief Volunteers.

Has anyone been to her show? Just wondering what it's like behind the scenes/commercial breaks the stuff we don't get to see on tv!

This show was a repeat. It sure would be nice to be the people in the audience, but I agree with her target audience not having the money to spend $30 on 2 lbs of brownies for example.

I did like that they were hurricane Katrina relief volunteers getting gifts though

I love watching that show every year. I really didn't feel like she was having a clap for me show. She is loved by her audience and just speaking for myself, I love her and admire all she has accomplished and her wonderful giving spirit. I think she knows that those things are not for the average viewer and I really don't think that she thinks that the average person will run out and purchase the items, she is just showing what she loves and I think it is really cool that she showers the audience with the gifts too. I have heard her joke about the items that she buys now versus the items that she used when she was first starting out and was pinching pennies like the rest of us.

I like this show, and I think it's great that she picks people to be in the audience who really need and/or deserve these things! But it's too bad that many of them end up on eBay right after the show... I guess I can't blame them - for some of these families, having the cash is more important than a $500 purse.

I like Oprah and her magazine as well as her show but I dont think most people can afford any of her "great things" items. I wish her magazine( as well as many others like budget living) would scale down the items they purchase. I usually wonder just whose budget we are talking about when I read these ones!
