Question How long do you keep magazines in your home

Other than Countryside Magazine and quilting books, we seldom purchase any magazines. When we do or are given any, we read them and then they are donated to the library.

We have a few subscriptions that dh signed up for a while ago. I have a lovely pile growing. I've never thought to donate them to the library. Thanks for the tip. I just may do that!

I save my Family Fun & Quick Cooking magazines and donate old ones to the Library every couple of years. I also keep the kids' Sesame Street & Ranger Rick magazine and donate those every couple of years.

Everything else gets recycled after reading or when it's outdated (like the tv guide).

As soon as I read one, it's thrown away. And, I usually read one the day it comes in the mail.

I have several free subscriptions. The magazines I actually pay for, I usually keep around for a while (like Mother Earth News or my archaeology magazines, though I don't get those right now.) I also hold on to Family Fun magazine, which is also free, because there are dozens of great ideas and activities in each issue, and DD is too small for many of them right now. They are stacked away neatly and out of sight for when we can use most of the ideas.

Other magazines, like Family Circle and things like that, go once I am done reading them, which is usually fairly quickly. I usually read them on my dinner break at work. Then I either give them to a co-worker, leave them in our break room, where we share books and magazines, or recycle them.

The ones we subscribe to are kept in files - Woodworker's Journal, Popular Woodworking, Longboard, Surfer, Surfing, Your Big Backyard (just switched to Ranger Rick), Countryside & Small Stock Journal, and Mother Earth News.

Any freebie subscriptions we receive are looked through immediately and then donated to the freebie bin at the library.

Dh gets Consumer Reports magazine he keeps 6 months worth. He also subscribes to the website so he can look up any archived information. We use it for almost every purchase.

I get RefundCents magazine, and currently have quite a few issues that I'll be giving to my students in my frugal living class. Otherwise, I read it, act on whatever information I'm interested in and then out they go.
