There are some sellers out there who ARE out to scam people.

Several years ago, I remember reading about one who sold a lot of small items cheaply. He got great feedback.

Then he listed a few really valuable things -- rare baseball cards, I think. He got the money from the sale, then quietly disappeared.

The buyers felt comfortable because the guy had such great feedback.

I managed to catch a scam for an embroidery machine I was going to buy. It was too suspicious since it was posted again- same one- right after I won it!

Further, I wouldn't send him a bank check and told him I would have the cash sent to a shipping company in his home town in Waco TX.
All he needed to do was give the machine to the nice gentleman at the desk- who would package it and ship it to me, at the same time, that nice gentleman would give him the cash. There were no fees on his part. He adamently refused- insisting I send him a bank check.

I reported this to ebay many times and they gave me the run around blah blah stuff. I didn't loose any money because I'm a little smarter to know NOT to send a bank check. DUH! But there were people who did- several people.

It was my investigative nature to track down and call the person who owns the ID (in washington state) and we soon found out her ID was stolen.
Only then, Ebay cancelled the person's sale item. What does it take to get ebay to listen to people.

I'm so certain the guys out there doing the same thing under someone else's ID (which is easy to get- BTW)

Don't send bank checks, cashier's checks or cash!

That's awful I guess some people don't know how to make money the honest way. It's ashame. That happened in Salem (it was in our news paper) in the amount of $5000.00 they never did catch the person either!

When I was new to Ebay,a seller had a great price on printer ink.By the way,he was selling a lot and he had a lot of great feedback.I never did get the ink but he got my money order;his answer was that he sent the ink to me.Yeah, right;I knew I had been had. Some sellers are just there to scam people;they can make a good living at it if they get enough innocent people to fall into their trap.

I'm sure you all know the story, but still feel I got scammed. The rv was up on ebay and someone used the buy it now option. Then I got a letter stating ebay cancelled my listing. I happened to remember the sellers name and looked them up, including their bid history. Yeah, they had a history of like 15 and 100% rating, but they bought little cheap things. Easy quick buys to give themselves a good rating. I think it was another seller with a fake name who did this deliberately to knock off my auction, less competition for them.

All I got from ebay was a sorry for my inconvenience. Uh, you're ebay, for crying out loud! Why not just put it back where it was before this person bid?? Over 750 people had looked at my listing and 28 people had it in their watch list. I could have sold it honestly.

Nope, too many out there like that. Ebay isn't such a great deal anymore and I'm refusing to go back. They ticked off the wrong chickie!!

    Bring on them baby steps...
    Step 1: done
Step 2: waiting on amount, hubby had followup colonoscopy, I had visit to ER with followup procedure
Step 3: to follow, won't know aim until things settle
Step 4: to follow, currently at 6%
    Step 5: grown child
    Step 6: huge mortgage ANNIHILATED!!
    Step 7: ahhhh....

Pammyboat, I agree with you. I stopped ebaying. It's gotten too big for it's britches and can't handle the scammers, irate customers, and complaints.

I'll bet that's what happened- some person didn't want your competition.

It's easy enough to do what you were suggesting. There's probably an underground book available; "Loop holes in Ebay. How to gain your riches the easy way."

Craigslist has been minimally effective. Lots and lots of email correspondence- lots of time spent 'peopling' in order to get something bought/sold on craiglist. But at least- you see the product- you give the money and make the transaction.

Some people will stoop to the lowest levels!
We dealt with a weird one a few months ago. We put one of our boats on ebay and it is a 25 footers so, not an easy delivery . We where where so tight for money we put it up even though neither of us wanted to
So, we get an email from a guy that was suppose to have this "client" wanting it. However, we where to ship it somehow to Japan. He said, his "client" would only due cashiers check or direct diposit and his pay would be included and we would need to get him his pay out of it. Well, dh reported it but even before he did the guys account got suspended and ebay sent us an email about the activity of this person and to contact them if we where approached by him, which we had been already anyway, they locked him out. We did not sell the boat either which we are thankful for because this summer I will be "boatable"

Just goes to show though people "think" they can get away with this online "theft" because what can you do, track them down and file with the police, it can be "false" info they list.

We had one guy that we had to threaten about as month ago. DH bought something, I think for the boating or saltwater tank. Well, the guy was paid right away. DH emailed him, no response. So, dh contacts ebay and gets his number, he calls and it happens to be his EX girlfriend number listed. He just moved out so, she was happy to give him his parents number where he was. DH talks to the guy and at first he was believable. He wound up with a few negatives and explained, he and his buddy ran this shop and he was going through tough time and they had not been messing with it in a few months and ebay still listed their store. He also said, he had not been to paypal so, he did not know there was money there. Ok, sounds right I guess. Well, he then does not send it and won't answer any calls. Dh calls the parents again and leaves a message. He also contacts the police here(the guy is in Tallahasse or somewhere up there). He then calls the guy back and gives him a date of when our money better be back or they will get the affidavit and complaint for theft, the next day money is back. Others had the same problem with him, dh contacted several, I think he has been suspended now. But, some of the "thefts" these people do is only like $20 or so, no big deal right, alot of people might not worry too much about it so, they "think" they can get away with it cause it would be too much hassle, well the little ones end up taking you down.
It is jsut unreal how low some people can be.

Anyway you look at it there are going ot be loop holes some people figure a way through no matter what it is. Just be aware.

Ebay isn't a scam. 99% of the people out there are honest. There is that small 1% that are dishonest. I've traded on ebay for the past 6 years and I've never been scammed. You really have to aware of who your dealing with. Paypal is probably the best way to transfer money.

As ebay gets bigger, there will be more dishonest people trying to scam people.

It's the best market out there for people to find good deals and make money for the "average joe".
