$10,000.00 in brand new books - yahoo
We live in a very small town of just under 500 people. We've not had a library in years. Recently the elementary school kids were combined with the highschool and the old school was given to our town.
We will have our grand opening of our new library (2 classrooms) in a few short weeks. We are being sponsored by a large library from the city and they will be bringing $10,000.00 worth of brand new books for us to shelve. What a fun day that will be, I can't wait.
Ten thousand dollars doesn't sound like a whole lot of books, however when you haven't had a library in your town for years, it's going to be a huge celebration.
It's going to be awesome to have our own library.

That is so incredible!!! Yipeee!! I love the library. Can't believe more people don't shop there! lol!!
And further, I'll bet if we get the word out we can find lots of places to donate books, older computers etc. Our own library has got such a surplus that they are turning away books for the surplus sale (each year).

It's really exciting for me because our family uses the library all the time.
Along with all these new books, the librarian has a new desk, we will have 4 new computers along with computer desks and all brand new shelving.
Our drop off box is going to be an Old Canada Post mail drop box.
It's all beginning to come together.

How wonderful for you guys!!!
What is needed yet? I am always curious as to what is a luxury in other libraries that we just assume is a necessity in ours.

Our shelves still need to complete.
We also plan on having a new couch and chair, along with a couple comfy chairs for older people to sit on.
We've gotten our phone installed. The computers still need to arrive.
The rug was put in about a month ago and all the trimming has finally been put on.
Now we just need an opening date. We will only be allowed to have 16 hours per week to begin with. Not much, however when you don't have a library and all of a sudden have one, 16 hours is heaven.
Oh and we need to have a tea to say thanks for all our volunteers.

Very cool. Wish you weren't so far away and books weren't so so expensive to mail, otherwise I'd send y'all a big old box of books! I donate to my library all the time and they sure have gotten a lot of great cookbooks!
