Question for NASCAR fans
I have a question for those of you who are NASCAR fans. I, in no way, mean to to be disrespectful, but what is it about NASCAR that excites you? In my life, the people that I have known that have been into NASCAR have absolutely LOVED it, but I never quite got it. I never asked any of them what the draw was, so I thought I'd ask you. I'm not really a big sports fan in general, so I am not saying that any other sport would be better than NASCAR, but I kinda get the draw of football. (Baseball and golf? no way...they pu me to sleep instantly.)
The winner of the Daytona 5000 is on Regis and Kelly right now, which is what made me think of it. Jimmie Johnson, I think.
So, can anyone explain it to me? Thanks!

For me it amazes me that they can drive so close together at the speeds they do. Also the way they calculate what they need gas, tires etc. to put them in the best light for finishing the race and hopefully in the top places. When you pit you often lose spots and have to come from the back of the pack but because you stopped to get tires or top off the tank you can out run them and come to victory circle. Plus those pit crews are amazing and last but not least~some of the drivers are easy on the eyes.

My dh is a huge NASCAR fan, and I don't get it either.
But my good friend also is a fan and she says she only watches for the pit crew guys. "hubba"

The excitment of it all....and the good looking drivers

My mom watches the pre race stuff.....her favorite part is when the planes fly over after the national anthem, and then she goes and does something else while my step dad watches.
I also watch becauses of knowing the Jarrett family.

Well I started watching racing years ago when I was a kid with my dad. But over the years you get to "know" the drivers, there families. I have watched Nascar for probably 10- 15 years (I'm 30). My mother and I can talk about what is going in racing and call the drivers, etc. by name, my husband has never gotten it. But he's not into any sports at all. He always made fun of me because when we still had cable and I was able to actually watch the races (have to listen on the radio now) I would have a cross-stitch project or something going while I watched. He would say, "How can you sit there and watch that while you do girly stuff." I probably have some disorder because I'm very attached to it and get very emotional at times when they mention a memory or someone that is now gone. I think overall it's a family sport with cousins, brothers, fathers, and sons, etc. working for different teams and most of the drivers families are there on the weekends too. It has grown a lot over the last few years, some good, some bad. 5 or 10 years ago the winner of the 500 more than likely would not have made the news let alone been on Regis. Probably didn't answer your question but I love it and honestly the only readon I want cable is so I can watch the races.

My husband is a sports nut-- he can quote stats on any player of any sport any day. I watch some sports with him, but NASCAR is the only sport I've ever really gotten into... and I really can't explain why. There's something about the strategy of the driving, the personalities of the drivers, the danger of it all.... it just fascinates me. I used to think it was really dumb, honestly, and now I follow it just as much as DH does.

The thrill of watching a whole bunch of people drive that fast and that close together and not have a major crash(sometimes). On the regular road you can barely get some people to go 40 without a big accident.

For me, it started when I was a kid. We've always watched NASCAR. I can see a # and tell you who it is. I don't know why I enjoy it, except for the intense speed of the cars. When we were growing up my cousins, my sister and I would all race against each other on motorcycles. It is the thrill of the speed. My niece is 16 and she races stock cars. I guess it is in our blood.
AND the cute drivers are just a plus.~*Michelle*~

Pick up the February 27th issue of ESPN magazine. There is a NASCAR driver on the front with his fire suit off down to below his belly button...pant pant...er...um...let's see. They're very good at calculating gas usage. Yeah, that's it, gas consumption!

No wonder he can do those backward flips, who knew what was hiding under that suit ,lol. Here's a link to Carl Edwards picture.
