I am most interested in that, because the whole Sun worship period in Egyptian history was a small and unusual deviation from their pantheon of gods, and a short lived but very influential experiment towards a mono theistic culture.

Since Heliopolis ("Sun City") was the center of worship for Re (pharoahs were considered the "Son of Re" from the 5th dynasty on) I bet there is a whole lot more under there that has yet to be uncovered.

It is interesting that they know as much about the Amarna period, since the monuments and temples there were trashed because Akhenaten tried to force monotheism on the people. Since Re was the principle sun god (as opposed to Akhenaten's Aten) for a VERY long time, I am just willing to bet that there is a whole, whole lot more to be found where ancient Heliopolis once stood.

If I could only get over there and start digging....

But it has been years since I did a dig, for one, and two, even my Egyptian friend tells me I should never, ever go there.
