Default Just saw that there was yet ANOTHER documentary about the Duggars...

"On the Road With 16 Children."

It is on DHC right now- will repeat at 11. I swear, the DHC is financing these people's lives.

I haven't watched it at all, but it looks like they are travelling cross-country in a double RV of some sort.

I admire them. They are a loving devoted family and they are raising their family debt free and teaching them wonderful morals and ideals. Their children are always so respectful and mannerly when they are on television, even the young ones.

I watched it-- vacation with 16 children. I really admire the mom. She's so organized and very patient with all those kids. I'd be pulling my hair out.

She has lots of patience but also everyone else helps raise the other child, they do the buddy system. So the whole family helps raise each other. Its kinda like the Waltons! I'll give her credit for having all those kids, and still going till she cant have any more. Not everyone can do that.

Well...Now this is just my opinion (and my daughter's too) for what it's worth. When you have so many children that each one has to have a "buddy" to get dressed in the morning, chances are you have had TOO MANY kids.

I understand that feeling. I remember wondering how my friend with 12 managed when I first met her. And up till then my sister with her 6 was the largest family I knew personally.

You have to be organized in larger families.

As for the Duggars they are paying their own way, all the kids are doing well, and from all accounts they are a responsible healthy family who are just a little unusual due to size.

They seem to be very well organized and I would suspect those kids are growing up with a good community spirit not to mention an excellent work ethic and sense of responsibility.

They attract a lot of attention so if they were hiding anything odd or one of the kids was unhappy, it would be pretty obvious.

    They are sure interesting.

We are expecting baby #10 soon..but I am in no way in a race with the Duggers.LOL. I am so amazed with this family, as they should be considered a big encouragement for other families, whether the families have 1 child or 20.
I believe that if the parents are raising their children to be productive members of society and with a strong moral backbone...that is very responsible parenting.....with committed parents such as these, I do not believe that there could be anything as having "too many children"

We only have two children and we ahve to sneak in ''you know what'' and lock the door and listen for little feet lol When do these people find the time or energy to have more kids.
They look very happy. All the more power to them if they can do it and have healthy happy well balanced children

Well, honestly, I have no idea how they manage. I can barely handle the one I've got. (I've pretended to be at least 18 different animals/people today in our imaginings- it is exhausting!)

I certainly don't mean for any sort of debate- this isn't the right forum for that (and please read where I'm coming from before you decide I'm horrible)- but I do wonder how fair it is to the older children to have to be partnered up with the younger ones. I wonder this BECAUSE my Mom is one of 10 children- she was the next to youngest of the nine that survived to adulthood. My oldest aunts and uncles all say that they were envious of the younger ones and some of them still have problems with that to this day- even into their 70s. Of course, every single family is different, we aren't in the middle of the Great Depression anymore, and goodness knows that my grandmother had problems of her own that undoubtedly contibuted to this situation.

All that said, I would never, ever take it upon myself to tell anyone they shouldn't have more children. First, it isn't my business (well, as long as I'm not paying for them, that is,) and second, a child is ALWAYS a blessing.

Imagine the amount of laundry! I am sorry, that is what I think about every time someone mentions this family. Being "on the road" with 16 kids would drive me to insanity, I am afraid. I respect the Duggars as parents. I think they are doing an incredible job.
