Do You Feel The Government & Media Are Being Truthful Re: The State Of The Economy?
I feel we're in much worse shape than they're letting on. I think we're being lied to to save face and to prevent us from panicking.

There are ups & downs all through history. I'm not worried. Just keep spending below my means and ride the waves.

I think it's far worse than the govt. is letting on. We are struggling right now, mainly because of high gas prices, since my dh commutes 100 miles round trip to work. If it's this bad for us and my dh makes a decent living, I can't imagine how difficult it is for those making less. Yet,all I hear from govt. economists is 'everythings great', building is up, blah, blah, blah. It reminds me of the '80's. The economy was great then too, for some people anyway.
As far as economic waves go, we were riding higher when Clinton was in office. My Republican friends say that's because of Ronald Reagan's doings. We could argue about that forever, lol.

If the Govt. is lying it doesn't matter, because things such as interest rates is set up based on how the Govt./Fed says the economy is doing. The way I see it, the Govt does hold all the cards. So I don't bother paying attention to news items like the economic state of the country and so on.

I agree with bg. The whole system of money is just something we all agree on because it makes trade easier. And the gov't controls interest rates as well.
What concerns me is that our gov't is selling our nation to other nations in the form of foreign trade debt. I had my dh explain it to me and at the end I said "So isn't that bad?" Oh, yes, very bad. Someday China may own us.
