Katrina one year later
Can you believe its already been a year.
My heart still goes out to those people, the city is far from being repaired. So many lives lost. I heard crazy heart-pulling stories of the horor that went on there after this tragedy! Iam so glad I believe in a God that promises something better in the near future! My prayers to those people and their families.

It certainly is a shock. Bush was in New Orleans for the rememberance services and he takes "full responsibility" for the government's reactions to this disaster and he said, "the next time something happens, we'll be more ready to help."
I won't get into what my thoughts are on this little statement, but it certainly will have mixed reviews.
So many people and animals suffered in this disaster. To me, the most heartbreaking memory of this disaster was that of a dog standing on a brick windowsill, soaking wet, covered in mud, and it couldn't move from the place it was standing without falling into the water. I always wondered what happened to him -- he couldn't stand forever, he'd eventually slip or fall from exhaustion. If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

Bush took responsibilty for this because as the president it is his job, but truth be told, there are many more than Bush that are responsible for the way it turned out.
I was talking to my cousin on the phone as he and his family were corssing a huge bridge while evacuating the day before Katrina hit. His main concern wasn't so much about the hurricane, but rather that the levies would not hold up. He told me what would happen if there was too much water. Unfortunatley he was right. Luckily he didn't have any damage to his home, but his mom, brother, and his office all suffered some damage. His DD and her DH lost everything. It was 7 weeks before I could get in touch with him again after the hurricane. He said the only way they could keep in touch was by text messaging..I don't have a cell phone. He made a Photo CD and sent pictures to me of some of the damage, but it was not nearly as graphic as what they showed on TV. I feel for the people that were/are the victims of Katrina. It has happened before in 1938 along the coast of New England. Hopefully somebody learned something from this disaster this time.

Dh was there a couple of months ago and was shocked by what he saw. He said he didn't notice much cleanup. He said it looked like it just happened. My prayers go out to everyone affected.
To me, the most heartbreaking events were the deaths and desperation of the people, not the animals.Last edited by staceyy; 09-02-2006 at 06:46 AM.
