1001 Books to Read before you Die
Has anyone heard of this list?
I found a copy of the list at
http://www.listology.com/content_sho...id.22845/Books
I looked through it, and out of all 1001 of these books, I've only read 9! I've made it my goal for 2007 to read at least one selection from the list every month. There are a lot of great titles that I've heard of on the list, but have just never gotten around to reading.
Only 992 titles on the list left to go!personal loan 900/15000

I've actually read:
The Handmaid's Tail (excellent)
Interview with the Vampire (beyond excellent)
To Kill A Mockingbird (interesting, good easy read)
The Old Man and the Sea (very good)
Animal Farm (you think it's going to be funny, but the end is actually chilling)
The Outsider (can't really remember this one, but I know I read it)
The Great Gatsby (worst book I ever read! Why is this on this list?!!!)
Dracula (heeheehee)
The Picture of Dorian Grey (didn't finish, very difficult but interesting read)
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (fantastic, classic chill)
A Christmas Carol (what's not to like? Ghosts, seeing the past, present and future, Christmas? Wonderful)
Frankenstein (No movie portrial has done it justice)
The Mysteries of Udolpho (bizarre)
Aesop's Fables (read several, would love to get a good old hardcover copy)If you're interested in frugal living, minimalism and and

~I browsed quickly but I've read about 50 on his list. I would never read about 500 items on his list. Also this is all adult fiction. But it was fun remembering some of the books I've been wanting to read and haven't made time for yet. Thanks for the link!~

Wow, I must be illiterate. I didn't recognize any of the books in the 2000's and I got down into the 400's before I started recognizing any of the titles.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

I went through the list and I have read 19 books out of the 1001. I have heard of only about 100 of those listed. Some of the titles I recognized as having been movies that I saw. (I didn't count them as the ones I have read, unless I read the book and saw the movie) The movies aren't always the same as the books! Thanks for the list, I should probably try to read some more from there.

I've read only 2 books from that list. I think it's time to read something new. Usually I read Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc, etc.

Cool!
I am a bigger fan of older stuff than modern (as far as fiction goes)...I have read more of the stuff from the 1800s than anything else on the list. I love Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heightsand Anna Karenina. And Emma! I just checked out Sense and Sensibility from the library yesterday. I am trying to read the classics a little bit of a time.
My two favorite books? (Don't know if either is on the list) Gone With the Wind and To Kill a Mockingbird If I had to list a modern book, it would be The Stand by Stephen King. But then again, I love The Lord of the Rings series as well.
Oh, I see The Sun Also Rises is on there...awesome book! A little too much Margaret Atwood on there for my taste...not a fan of her stuff.
I didn't count, but I would say that I have read between 40 and 50 of these books.

I've read about 20 off that list & hopefully missed a few. So many books, so little time.

Went back through the list and I have read 34 of them.
But I do own Vanity Fair--just haven't read it yet.
This makes a good list for me to use when I go the library. All those classics I haven't read yet!

I've read about 9...and I'm in Great Expectations now... I was sad that Lord of the Rings only counted for one!
I'd love to eventually read these all..next time I'm searching for a book, I'll have to use this list. I was also sad that Harry Potter wasn't on there, but I suppose it's not adult fiction really. Even though lots of adults read it.
