Alexander McCall Smith's books are great:
The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is the first in a very good series.

I loved those books & rarely see them ever mentioned & yes I read them as an adult. Love the Harry Potter books too.
Have you read the books about Beatrix Potter by Susan Wittig Albert?
They are wonderful. Love how animals come to life to save the day. I do like to believe animals all have a language all thier own and we all work together for wonderful magical happy endings. Yes I talk to my cat often and we are close, lmao.

Amy (AheeK), I love the Blue Castle, too! One of my all-time favorites. I don't think I've ever "met" another person who's read it. I haven't read it in a few years, but now that you've reminded me, I'm gonna dig it out and re-read it this weekend. So, thanks for the reminder!

Oooh, you guys have such good taste in books!! You've reminded me about so many that I have to go re-read. krissyre, you're the first person I've ever met who's read The Blue Castle too!! LOL! And I've seen the Redwall series a million times at the library, but I've always had something else on my mind and I don't know which book is the first one in the series. If I get the chance, I'm definitely going to check it out. I love the LOTR and Harry Potter and Outlander series too, but I knew someone else would put them down, so I didn't.

I love books & love book series even more. I love:

    1. Harry Potter series (this is a good read for adults, too). I have been mesmerized by these books & as soon as they come out, I run to Wal-mart (before work) & buy it.

    2. Left Behind, adult series. When I started reading this the first time, I got bored around book 4 or 5. Years later when I decided that I would complete the series, I almost couldn't put the books down. They were fabulous.

    3. Left Behind, kids series. Great great books. My 11 yr. old niece & I read up to book 9. There are about 40 books in the series & really opens up communication regarding what's right & what's wrong. We also have talked about what does she think she would do in a particular situation. It really helped with her learning & comprehension (which was my goal that summer). We've only read that far because we've switched to the Harry Potter books so we can read the last one when it comes out. I'd hate for her to hear how it ends from her friends.

    4. Francine Rivers (christian fiction). She did a series about the women that were in Jesus Christ's lineage. The stories are:

    Unshaken - Ruth
    Unafraid - Mary
    Unashamed - Rahab
    Unspoken - Bathsheba
    Unveiled - Tamar

At the end of the book, she ties these women in & you see how they were related to Jesus. Loved them!

If anyone is interested in reading a book or a series & then coming here & talking about it, I would love getting something like that started. Just a thought.
