I agree with everything on the list except sports equiptment.
I refuse to buy used shoulder pads and football helments for obvious safety reasons.
I also refuse to but a used baseball bat. Bats do not last forever and they lose their "umph" and "pop" after a while.
Batting helments should not be bought used either for again, obvious safety reasons.DD (19)

I agree completely with that list. I don't play sports, so I wouldn't have to worry about that. I borrow my hand tools from my step father. The only thing I am guilty of buying was a new car almost 5 years ago. I would never buy a new car again. It was the dumbest thing I ever bought! I had no idea at the time that it was better to go with a car that was 1-2 years old. I bought it new because I got no interest and $1,000 off because I was a college graduate. I have still made, in my opinion, too high of monthly payments on it and the insurance was higher because it was new!
The 10 things not to buy used I would agree on, except for maybe the shoes. I tend to buy inexpensive shoes anyways and I have found that my sister's used shoes tend to be every bit as fine as my old shoes. I haven't used anyone elses used shoes yet, but I wouldn't be "above" doing that.

Interesting article. Thank you for posting it.
I can add to the list----- Cell Phones. Mine broke and the company wanted $200 for a new phone. I got one off of ebay for $40, and I love it!!!!!

I do buy used shoes, if they look like they were worn only a time or two. This was the case with DH's black dress shoes. They looked as if someone had bought them to wear once to a prom, wedding, or funeral then never again. They were VERY NICE shoes that retail for $150, and I picked them up at the Goodwill for $3.98.

The only thing on this list that I would never buy new is a car. Most of the rest of the stuff I buy new unless I just happen to come across it used. Personally, I find yard sales to be an inhumane form of torture, so searching all over town for weeks looking for one that is selling the shovel, or the book or the cd that I'm looking for is completely out of the question. Due to my dust and mold allergies, I can not go into stores that sell used books or clothing without getting sick. If I can't get it on freecycle, I'll buy it new. I'm sure the search for a used shovel would cost more than a new one anyway. I know everyone loves the library, but I need to own my books. I always regret reading a borrowed book and not having it available to refer back to at a later date.
Several things I would never buy at all (jewellery, timeshares) and one item (PS2 games) I would never buy used. I've bought used games and none of them ever worked correctly. Unfortunately it can take weeks or months to find a problem with a game and it is usually too late to return it.
