Worst. Book. Ever.
You've all read one at some point. A book so bad that, when you finish it, all you can think about is that you'll never get that time back again. So, let's hear 'em! **Note: I don't want to start any fights. This is a thread to express why YOU consider a book to be terrible, realizing that not everyone may share your opinion.
My pick for worst book EVER: Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Why? I hate bad endings in books. If I want to hear stories of death and despair, I'll watch the news.

Snow. Every chapter had the same stuff happening over and over again. It was slow moving and painful. It was also translated into English and I think a lot was lost in translation.

Ok, gotta
for this one!
I have a tie:
"The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. There has never been literature written in which women are portrayed as stupider, more useless human beings that this piece of literal crap. By the time the book was over, I was ready to go through it and strangle Daisy. "Oh, I'm paralyzed with happiness. I wish my daughter would grow up to be a beautiful little fool." Ugh, my brain is dying just thinking of it.
And you want to know the scary part? The women in this book are based on the guy's wife... who ended up in an asylum.
"Practical Magic" by Alice Hoffman. Dear... merciful... god.
First off, throughout the whole book, two important characters are referred to as "The Aunts". I thought there were three of them. It didn't clarify until the last chapter that there were only two and only at that point did they get names. There is absolutely no point to any male character throughout the whole book except Jimmy, and that's only because they kill him. All other male characters in the book are could've been left out of the story without any complications. And they're all useless! One guy sits in a stranger's house and bawls his eyes out because the cup of coffee sitting on the table beside him reminds him of his grandfather who died years ago!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. What a load of crap. Flying girls with wings? Come on. Absolutely the worst book, ever.

Not Buying It. Thought it would be a wonderful book about frugality - turned out it was about "sacrificing" and only buying bargain $60 sweaters.

This is hysterical...I was just telling someone today that when I was a freshman in high school, I almost failed my English class because refused to read that book because my teacher kept calling me stupid. I eventually read the book and after I was done I thought, "Seriously? THAT'S what all the fuss was about???"

It's hard to say the worst but the dumbest I've read recently is The Big Sky by A.B. Guthrie. My mother-in-law recommended it to me. We both like to read and I usually enjoy her recommendations but not this time!

Hands down, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. The most mind-numbingly, boring, overly self-aware piece of drivel ever composed.

Most of the time I just put'em down if they rot so I don't have one I really detest. However I've never made it through a single Danielle Steele book (mom keeps telling me how wonderful they are but Im just not in touch with them) and even though I do like vampire stuff I'm with Laurie Ann Rice is another one I just don't like. I recently tried to get myself through Keri Arthur's 2nd book in a series (the first one was really good) but I can't do it. I can't even think of the name.

I don't read a lot of novels, but when I do I want it to be about something besides incest. I don't read V.C. Andrews for that reason.

This thread is hilarious. I'm laughing my head off at your descriptions of these awful books.
