    Question Stuck on a book

I've been reading a good book for months now. I'm enjoying the story, but feel I'll never finish it. Several months its just waited for me to open it again. I finally picked it up a week or so ago, only reading a few page here & there. I have lots lined up after I finish this one, but can't seem to make time to read. How do you find more time for reading? Could it be the book? Should I start a different book?

When I can't get into a book I'm reading, I'll put it away and start a new one. Sometimes it is just my mood, and the book is better at another time.

I've been known to read a book in the bathroom, taking a bath, in the car after I've gotten to work but before I have to go in, in every waiting room I ever wait in, and at night when I go to bed. I don't always get through very many pages at once, but I get through a lot of books in a year.

    What book is it?

Edna, it sounds like the bible that you are referring to.

I usually make myself sit down for 15 - 30 mins and just read with a cup of tea. Forced relaxing ME time if you know what I mean. I too try to read in the powder room and before bed.

Usually when you cant sit through the book, its prob the book and not your busy schedule. If it was an interesting book you'd make time or really want to get through it and would find ANY time to sneak it in. Try to re-visit that book later. Ive got a few books on 'hold' too if you will.

I read more in the summer, because I spend less time watching tv. I usually read for about 30 minutes during the day, either while I eat lunch or during my "quiet time" before the kids get home from school. I usually read for awhile after the kids go to bed. I always have my book with me to read while I wait at the dr, oil change place, etc.

The book is The Beachcombers by Josephine Cox & I'm around page 225 or so. I think I started out strong, but lost interest... still want to know how it will turn out. So, I hope to get back to it soon. Anyone read 2 books at once? I've never tried it, but wonder how that might work with this "slow" one I'm stuck on.

Decided to start I, Coriander by Sally Gardner last night & read 25 pages or so. Its listed for ages 12-15 (guess thats young adults) so I'm expecting a fun, relaxing read. Think that's what I need to get over being stuck for soooo long.

What's everyone else reading? Going to see if I can find the thread I saw last week... think others were posting their reading lists for the month or something like that.

I'm always reading 3 or so different books, but I'm usually not reading fiction. I could probably only read one or two novels at the same time, alongside other non-fiction books.

Right now I'm reading The Complete Tightwad Gazette, The Old Testament, and Bill Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words (I just look at a few words each day) and will probably start Don't Know Much About History soon.

Of course during the school year I'm lucky to get any leisure reading done, so I find bits of time to read and over time I do finish books.

    I read:
    - When I get into bed, until my eyes droop
    - On the bus
    - While waiting for the doctor, dentist, or a prescription refill
    - When I'm ready to go and still waiting for my ride

I usually only read one at a time, but kind of lost my drive on one recently so quit to read another for a while. Am stuck in The Spider King, and just finished a Patricia Cornwell that I can't remember the name of but it was gruesome (then, what else can one expect when the main character is a coroner?) and am debating starting back on The Spider King. I almost always go for fiction, usually historical or mystery. I also read books for work, but I think those don't count. Somehow the Solaris 10 Administrator's Guide just doesn't look interesting on one's reading list :-)

I am reading an odd book, it is The Keep by Jennifer Egan. It is a dark, Gothic type story, that is actually two stories in one book. It has a main story that involves that main characters and then a side story that lets you know that they main story is being written by an inmate in a maximum security prison as part of a creative writing class. It is a good book but it is written with an odd style of narratives and I have to really focus to figure out who is doing what at times. I am about 2/3's finished with it and I hope to finish it tonight. I am reading it for the summer reading program at our library.

Does anyone let chores slide around the house to make more time for a great book? Or get less sleep? I totally forget about getting 8 hours of sleep & read until the words get blurry. So maybe its good I've been stuck on this one book for months. I sometimes daydream of taking the day off just to read. Really I think I should have more time to read than I seem to find. So, I'm going to start taking my book along on errands & such.

mom21ofeach... I also seem to have more time to read in the summer. Then once I've read 2 or 3, I seem to slow down again as the fall nears.

Katybird... I read to description of The Keep eariler while check out The Historian . It sounds interesting, let me know what you think once you finish it. Not sure I would be able to get into it, but I've added it to my possibilities list (its got a ? next to it for now).

Will also check out the others that have been mentioned. Always look for another good book.

    Default Multiple books

I also read multiple books at a time. I have 5 or 6 going right now. I read one til I get bored and pick up then next and around and around. I mix up fiction and non-fiction and if a book "takes off" then I will be devoted til I'm done. I never had to make time to read... in fact I have to make sure there is no reading material within arms lenght when I drive... I just can't resist at those red lights

Just finished Pamela by Samuel Richardson and Salvation on Sand Mountain by Dennis Covington. That was very interesting. It's about the serpant handling churches in West Virginia, Tennessee etc.

    Currently I am reading:
    David Copperfield.
    March by Gerldine Brooks
    2 technical texts for class
Tightwad Gazette... but I never really finish it
Introduction to a Devout Life by St. Francis De Sales

I usually read a variety of fiction books, and tend to read only one at a time. I read a lot of magazines too..that's probably why I only read one at a time.

I read The Historian mentioned earlier. It was pretty good. Parts of it had a little drag, but overall I liked it.
    Current books I'm reading:
    The Red Queen

I tend to have two books going at the same time. I like to read a financial or other kind of self help book at the same time that I am reading a novel. From time to time I will have two novels that I am reading, especially if one is slower reading than I like.

I'm reading 3 books right now, plus the Bible. I keep one book in the car for when I have an appointment or when I stop at the park. I like to read late at night, I seem to sleep better.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
