DD finished it Saturday afternoon. I am going to turn this post over to her......
Alright, the name "Deathly Hallows" means something, but not about how many people died. However, I won't completely ruin the book for you. Instead, I'll give you the basic 411.
The people who die are, in no order,
Hedwig (Harry's Owl), Mad-Eye Moody (old School Teacher), Dobby (House Elf from the 2nd book), Wormtail (Peter Pettergrew, Ron's old "pet"), Snape (Potions master, Dumbledore's murderer, and Hogwart's newest headmaster), Scrimgeour (Minister of Magic), Bellatrix (Sirius' cousin and murder), Fred (Ron's older brother and George's Twin), Voldemort (You-Know-Who), Remus Lupin (werewolf, old Defense against the Dark Arts Teacher), Tonks (member of the Order of the Pheonix), Crabbe (Malfoy's friend)
The Epilouge takes place nineteen years after the events of the attack on Hogwarts. Harry and Ginny have married and have three Children, Lily, James and Albus Serverus, and Ron and Hermione married with two children, Rose and Hugo. Draco has married with one child, Scorpius. Teddy Remus, Lupin's only child (He and Tonks married and had a baby before both died, naming Harry godfather) is now nineteen and "snoggin" (as Ron says) Jame's cousin, Ginny's neice, Victoire. James, Albus, Scorpius and Rose are now heading to Hogwarts and are all hoping to end up in Griffindor.
Neville is now professor of Herbology at Hogwarts, it does not - or I cannot remember - list who the newest headmaster is or what happen to the Order after Voldemort died.
Hagrid IS ALIVE for those of you who were worried. Dumbledore and Sirius ARE DEAD. It was CONFIRMED. Just as it was confirmed - by Dumbledore and Snape's memories - that Snape killed Dumbledore because the old headmaster ordered him to, he was already dying.DD (19)

So, here's my question... what's Harry doing with his life? They didn't mention that bit. Is he an auror? Does he work for the Ministry? Same with Ron and Hermione and the rest.
I was also wondering who Malfoy married (was it that Pansy Parkinson??), and couldn't help snickering at his son's name. Scorpius or something overly dramatic like that.
Of course, little Albus Severus didn't fare much better.
For me, the saddest deaths by far were Lupin and Tonks, leaving little Teddy an orphan.
But, all in all, a REALLY good read. And with a moral -- Don't be fooled by appearances! The guy who seemed completely EVIL and unredeemable (Snape) actually had the heart of a hero. The guy who seemed to be so perfect and all-knowing (Dumbledore) had become that way because of remorse for the selfish and unwise things he did in his youth.

We had a few people in the other forums I visit that never read the series... A few of them picked up the books and then realized they really are a good set of stories and have thoroughly enjoyed them. It is an epic tale of the Hero's Journey, the quests, the obstacles, the friendships, the losses. Classic Joseph Campbell type of story. The books get better with book 3 as the story develops.

I finished mine yesterday. I started it at work Saturday and vowed to stay away from the computer until I finished it...lol
Joe said he might actually read this one. He would aks me what was happening every now and then, but when I would try to tell him something else he didn't want to know.
I haven't told him who all is around in the end just that the Epilouge is titled 19 years later.
He is so dying to know, he said he my skim thru it tonight (or in other words read the last few chapters. Although, I must say, that since Half Blood Prince, Joe has been saying that he didn't think Snape was really evil and if was a bad guy in the end then he would be upset. So I know he will be happy for that.

I still have a few questions, in the last book Dumbledore had sent Petunia a letter in it it said "Remember our last". A lot of people didn't think that he was the one about taking care of Harry, and after seeing Snapes memories in this book, I think he meant the letter that he sent to Petunia herself when she was a kid (Wish I'd known what they said to each other...lol)
I know the Dursley's went into hiding to be protected and eventhough they were pains in all the books, it was nice of them to be choked up when they finally left, especailly Dudley thanking him for saving his life and Petunia not able to say anything at all. I just wish we knew what happened to them.
One more thing....It was late when I finished but we know that all of Harry & Ginny's kids where named for Harry's friends and family, What about Fred, did Ron and Hermonie name one of their's after him? Oh well. It was still a great book, at least we still have 2 more movies coming out before it will all truely be over with

I wondered if maybe George ended up naming one of his kids "Fred."
I also wanted to know who ended up being head at Hogwarts---McGonnall, perhaps?
And I wish book 7 had had more of Neville in it.
