Good Books?

Every year I ask my husband to buy me a couple of books for Christmas. It's all I want, really! My tradition has been to curl up on Christmas night, by the Christmas tree and the fire, and read a brand new book. After all the work and rush of preparing for the holiday, I look forward to this quiet time.

Last year he bought me "Nickel and Dimed". I loved it, and read it in one day. I'm not sure what to ask for this year. I'm thinking "The Tipping Point", and maybe a couple others. I like those kind of books... sociology-type observations of the world around us. Any suggestions?

Bill Bryson wrote a great book called "A Walk in the Woods". He is a writer who lived in England for a number of years and then moved back to the states (actually New Hampshire) in the early 90's. He decided to walk the Appalachian Trail from beginning to end and for some reason, an out-of-shape friend decided to join him. This is a 'make-you-laugh-out-loud' type of book with the things these men go through. Friends who have read this book have loved it. He also wrote a book called "In a Sunburned Country" about his trip to Australia...he is so funny!
