Oprah - 75 Tons of Garbage
Anyone catch the Oprah show w/Peter Walsh?
http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows...promocode=HP11
I turned off the television, went upstairs - and went through my hanging clothes. I also went through my second closet & dresser. I'm going through my boxes in the closets by the end of the weekend. I made two large piles to donate to Amvets.
It's hard to let go of the clothes due to all the memories. Plus, I remember when I was 20 lbs lighter...

I seen some of it. Its hard for some people I use to watch a show like that on How clean is your house. Very sad.

I watched it. It has motivated me to get rid of even more junk. I hope this motivates people and sends a wake up call to those who are sliding into this habit that this woman had.

I saw the preview, so tuned in to see it. So sad! It was good that she got the help that she desperately needed. I just kept thinking, where on earth did she get the money to buy ALL THAT STUFF? I've never in my life seen someone with that many belongings, tons and tons of clothes, shoes, purses, craft stuff, gifts, toys, etc.
I really hope she will be able to stop the compulsive shopping.

I saw it. My daughter came in near the end, so I rewound to show her the 'before' pictures and the warehouse. I would have liked for her to see the mold and mice, but I couldn't go back that far. She likes to buy things just because they're there, and she can't let go of anything because it's all 'special'. Drives me crazy because I'm the opposite.
It was a bit of an eyeopener though, when the husband was sorting through the 35 year old bank statements, because that's something that I struggle with. I don't like having 'things' around, but I hoard documents and information.

I saw the first part of the show. It motivated me to get rid of whole set of dishes . I have 4 sets and its only the two of us here. Every Christmas, I empty one set out of cabinet and store away, and bring out the pure white set. Now today, I say to myself, why am i doing this every year? Why not just use the white set all year, after all it DOES match everything right? So One of my kids whoever wants it, will be getting a new set of dishes! If not I will try to Ebay them,, just way heavy to ship..Now on to the rest of the cabinets, who needs 10 of every baking pan ever made?

Since I've watched this show, I gone through my closets. I have 3 bags of clothes for AmVets, and I'm a bit sad to let go of them. I have a lot of memories associated with those clothes.

how do you have memories associated with clothes?
I'm not being a smartass - really, I'm just curious - I don't get it?
I kept my wedding dress - and the boots I wore with my dress, but otherwise, it's just clothing - given, there are some very comfy favorites that I'll wear til they fall apart (such as one sweatshirt that I've had for 5+ years) - but I don't get how one can have an emotional attatchment to a "thing"Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

Shoot I am barely attached to my wedding dress even. I still have it but I often think about getting rid of it. I use to keep stuff just because I liked it but after moveing a few times I put an end to that. If I dont have a use for it its gone.

OH WOW! I just went through the site and WOW is all I can say. I feel bad about my clutter but I do move it around and reduce the # of original boxes and purge lil by lil. Again that motto, you didnt accumulate it in one day so you cant be rid of it in a day thing plays on my mind but I do trickle through on occasion. I just cant believe there was no room to walk and there was black mould all through the basement! ICK!!!! Im glad she got help and has a 'new to them' home. Makes me want to purge now. I guess thats the point huh?
