It's the name of a book on all the best-seller lists. I haven't read it but I do know it's about a woman who travels to one place in the world to learn about food, another place to learn about faith, etc., and then another place to learn about love. Now how she learns about all these things in all these places---well, I don't know 'cause I haven't read the book. I've just read a review or two.

Sounds interesting and right up my alley. I love learning about different cultures. I'll have to check this book out a bit more.

She divorces her husband and makes the decision to eat her way through Italy, Pray her way through India, and Love her way through Indonesia. I borrowed it from the library but only got 30 pages in before I ran out of time and had to return it (it was special reserve.) I liked what I read, though.

I purchased the book a couple of months ago, but have not started reading it yet. (next on my reading list.). Here is what is written on the back of the book.
"In her early 30's, Elizabeth had everything a modern American woman was supposed to want-husband, country home, successful career-but instead of feeling hapy and fulfilled, she felt consumed by panic and confusion....this book is the story of how she left behind all outward marks of success, and of what she found in their place.Following a divorce and crushing depression, she set out to examine 3 different aspects of her nature set against the backdrop of 3 cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, & on the Indonesian island of Bali, a balance between wordly enjoyment and divine transcendence."

It was a great book but didn't really change my life. I did really enjoy her style of writing, she's very witty and her journey is food for thought .

I bought a copy at our local resale shop - 30 cents. Haven't started it yet. But since then I've seen 3 more copies at various stores - resale shops.

I'm curious about it - as soon as I'm done with The Red Tent I'll be starting it.

I saw Elizabeth on Oprah too. The second time she was on. I got it from the library and read it in one sitting. It's awesome. I don't think it changed my life either and wouldn't adopt it as a bible (as some of the women on Oprah kept saying) but it is a great book. I'm buying my own copy and I will highlight and write in it and keep it by my bed for reading again and again.
She does eat, pray and love in three different countries but it is more than that. She is searching for God and for the illusive peace inside that I think a lot of us search for (myself included). The people she meets and the insights she finds in herself make it an interesting story. She puts it all down in such a forthright manner - I laughed out loud and sniffled in various places throughout. And I identified with her. I recommend it to everyone

I enjoyed the first part (when she's in Italy), but I just can't seem to get into the second part.

I did realize though that I got the book from paperbackswap and not the library, so I do have some time to get back to it
