Does anybody ever read--
some good books on wagon trains, going out west or know of a good series?
Sometimes Ill go online and find what sounds like a great book, but none at our libary.
I have now and will be reading next week- The Santa -fe Trail Diary 1848- diary of Florie mark Rider(Dear America , all the Start in the Sky). look like a good journal to read.

There is a book called the Diary of Callie Wade or the journal of callie wade.
There is another book about the diaries of Mattie Spenscer. They are all really good.McD

I'm reading One Thousand White Women which is an historical fiction "diary" of a women who choses to go out west and marry a Cherokee Indian after the Civil War. I'm not that far into it, but so far I like it.

YES! These two from Gwen Bristow are my FAVORITES. I read them over and over. Calico Palace and Jubilee Trail. Both are from the woman's perspective and SO neat. My Mom gave me Calico Palace when I was a teenager and I didn't read it until I was in my 30's! (Just thought the old book looked neat)
Now it's my favorite book! I searched online for more books from her and found a bunch of the same sort of stories, but these are my 2 fave's. They're out of print now, so your best bet would be your library.

I read a book long ago from the library. It is called "Woman of the People" It's about a white woman that gets captured by the indians and lives with them.

also loved True Women by Janice Woods Windle....loved that one because I have Texas relatives and was born there...

thanks veryone. i'll put the rest of the them on my libary list.
I finished The santa fe Trail -that was excellent.
I have 2 dear america books now that are due back next week--The oregon trail diary Hattie Campbell and the Alamo Diary of Lucinda Lawerence. looks really good.
