Thumbs up Last night I watched...

1940's house from PBS (rented from Netflix).

It was great! It showed not only the historical aspect of the UK at war, but it also showed how the women sacrificed for not only the war, but for their families as well. Many women essentially became "single" moms and had to learn how to deal with that, how to deal with food rationing, etc.

    I highly recommend it!

I saw the entire show last year on PBS. What a cool experience. Sure wish they would bring it back on for a rerun. Also the one they did in Canada about pioneering. Building your own cabin etc. That was awesome,.

I saw some of the shows on PBS last year. Really thought it was interesting. Kept of wondering if I could do something like that.

I didn't know they did a 1940's house! I'll have to rent it.

There are quite a few series like that (WIKIPEDIA) lists them if you are interested. I've even seen bits of series that set people in the Iron Age, a Sheep Station in Australia, and a Vicorian house. They are all very interesting.

    Gotta love Netflix!

I saw Victorian House & was disappointed that the only one who really got a taste of what living in that time period was like was the wife. She was the one who stayed in that house 24/7. Hubby got to go to work (albeit in some ridiculous get-up, but he did get to go back to the 20th Century when he had some military assignment) & the kids got to go to school (again, in ridiculous get-ups, but still able to mingle with their friends, etc). I felt so sorry for her, especially since they made her wear a corset, which is proven to be medically harmful.

Pioneer House was okay; Edwardian House was the most interesting. It really took a lot of work to keep those houses in good condition & they only cast less than 1/2 the staff needed to keep it that way.

1940's House was great, because the wife used what she had learned once she returned to "normal" life (shopped at greengrocers & butchers instead of major grocery stores, etc).
