Anyone or kids reading
Spiderwick Chronicles?
Can you tell me about it? DO you/your kids enjoy it?
Is it along the same lines as Bridge to Tarabithia, the Chronicles of Narnia, and such?~~ Missy ~~

It was scary. We saw it last weekend. My kids are used to watching "scarier" type things like LOTR, all the Star Wars Movies, etc, but this was a bit much for them. I wouldn't recommend it for any child under 10.
I've heard that it differs from the series quite a bit, but I suppose that's inevitable when condensing a whole series into a 2 hr-ish movie, yk?
I thought it was pretty good, and Dave liked it, but Kathryn was almost ready to leave (and she'll be 11 in June).

If she at 11 was spooked, I know my 8 yo will be. Shoot. Has she read any of the books? Were those better for her?
I was researching a little and I found some educational printables about them. Activities. I will find a good spot to post that.~~ Missy ~~

No, we've never read the series, but I think *I'd* like to...not sure if they would, but the story was kind of neat and not the typical type of book I read.
Oh, I meant to add too that I think Kathryn wouldn't have been as scared if we had watched it at home vs. the theater. It was LOUD. Maybe that would be a better option for you?

Chelle, I definitely agree that the movie was LOUD! It was crazy loud at the theater we went to. I took Julia (7) last week. She was a little frightened and watched the whole thing from my lap, but she really enjoyed it. I'd go along with the Narnia comparison, but not quite as fantastical.

My 9yo who is NOT a fan of reading
liked the books. I haven't read them but want to. They want to see the movie, but we are waiting for it to come out on DVD. Mine won't be afraid of it. They aren't afraid of anything
Sorry, I'm no help lol.
ETA: There are "special edition" mini books in some of the General Mills cereal. Maybe they could be an introduction to the books/movies?
