Since the 100 days are almost over, I'm posting my results. Technically, I failed this challenge. I spent $24 on unplanned, non-essential things for the grandkids since 1/1/2011. However, I had spent $39 in the same categories at this point last year, so I'm considering it a qualified success.

The 100 day must be over by now. I was semi-successful as well. I spent $50 in books. that is good though. I spent $1200 last year, which averages out to $100 per month! So $50 for three months is very good. And I did it under duress and unusual temptation too. DH wanted to go spend that gift card and took me for an hour to Chapter's, expecting me to not buy anything. I think he just wanted to me to fail at this challenge.

Yea yea yea Im late I know but I am still in. Today, April 18th, I am giving up buying cigs. Yup I am quiting starting today. I smoke about 1/2 pack a day which equals $1.92/day. So at this rate in 100 days I will have saved $192.00

    ok, I'm in!

Impulse buys are what nickel and dime my budget.

If it's not on a list somewhere, I don't buy it.

That's all I can think of. I don't eat out more than a few times a year. I don't buy a ton of candy (and with Halloween being in the next 100 days, I am not going to commit to giving up candy! lol!)

    I don't buy clothes/purses/shoes. I don't buy books or movies..

OOOH - I got one! No buying craft supplies on etsy for 100 days!
(I am willing to revise this though - if I sell most of my stuff at my October craft fair, I may need to restock. But if I don't, I will have more than enough "stock" for my etsy shop for the next 100 days, I think!)

ThePhenomemom: I think this challenge is over for the most part, but I'm game to work along side you again for this. Not sure what to give up. The 100 days thing seemed to check me on books.

I like your idea of no craft supplies from Etsy, but I don't buy from there anyways. And I have an Etsy shop selling some crafting supplies, so I'm not sure I like that one!

I would say no spending on hobbies period, but most of the 'hobby' stuff I do is actually for the house or a wedding/Christmas gift, or something like that. Which I don't really consider hobby. Or it's for sale. It's more practically oriented.

    I know!

I'm going to take a moratorium on classes of all kinds till the end of the year. I have enough to do with my time and in this house. Time to work on what's here instead of spending money to buy supplies and learning new techniques.

This will be a challenge because there is a Crazy Quilting class coming up I'm interested in. And a special dye/fabric class not far from me. I'm technically signed up for it, but haven't received any notice of supplies or times, and it's supposed to start next weekend. If I don't hear from the lady I'll assume it's not happening.

I think I can succeed in this one because I have lots of DVDs at home with instructional material on them that I can watch and learn from. I can use material I have around the house to try their techniques. No need to take an expensive class.

Bummer. I didn't realize it was over. Is there another current one going on that I missed?

Thanks for offering to do it alongside me, though!

I have never quilted before - I'd like to learn at some point though because I have boxes and boxes of my kids baby clothes just waiting to be made into quilts for them to bring to college.

    Nice meeting you!

Well, i don't think there's a new one started anywhere. We can just bum along together. But it would be fun if more people were involved...hmm...how about we wait 24 hours and see if more people pop up to join. If not, I'll start a new thread in the Challenges section of the forum, OK?
