Yes, I side-stepped temptation entirely and just didn't go to The Bird Shop. Instead, I stopped at the feed store on the way home and bought a bag of seed and a bag of pellets.

No impulse spending. Went grocery shopping, but stuck to what was on my list AND refused to wander down aisles, something I typically do, because I am always thinking I forgot something and seeing it will trigger my memory. (When in reality I usually just see stuff that I decide I want and that I don't need.)

I like this challenge! I've looked over our expenses for last year and realized I spent a lot of money on 'hobbies' and 'Household -miscellaneous'. So I asked DH "What goes in Household miscellaneous that's costing so much?" He says it's the books I'm buying. Yep, I buy books...from Amazon. Usually used, but the shipping gets you. I don't buy often, but when I do it's big. I'm guessing I spent over $1000CAD on books last year.
Not this year! This year I am making myself go 100 days without buying books...actually I want to go the whole year. But we'll start with just 100 days.
Usually I'd put in an order for books once a month. But I have so many unread books in the house that it's time to break my spending habit and just catch up on what's here.
If I 'need' another book I'll borrow from friends or the library.

It's a good thing you live a long ways away from me Madhen!
But that reminds me...I'm going to have to avoid the library book sale tables by the exits of my local libraries too.

No impulse spending today, although I did spend today. I needed binder paper, and I've been looking all over for the reinforced paper, with no luck, so I finally gave up and ordered some on-line. Got a good price with free shipping, though!

No Walmart as of yet!! The one thing I have realized is how much more time I have. I must have wasted a lot of time wandering around those isles
I have also found that the other stores are so much more low-key and I feel much less stressed shopping. Makes me wonder if Walmart might use subliminal messages or something in the music or what not (I read of that at one time). Maybe it is just the smaller store and less people. Whatever it is, I really like it. So much more peaceful. The only thing that I have not found in the smaller store is Progresso chicken enchilada soup, so I will just have to make something similar from a recipe. Anyone have a good recipe for something like this??
