Dog treats?
Does anyone have any good recipes for making dog treats? I just adopted a bigger dog and would like to make treats instead of buying them.

Here is the recipe I use:
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 egg
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 beef bouillon cubes, dissolved in
3/4 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl until well combined. Knead dough for about 1 minute.
On a floured surface, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out with dog bone cutter and place on greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 30 minutes. Cool completely before feeding to pet or putting in jar.Nancy

my wife has a recipe for dog treats.
from my very poor memory I remember it has wheat germ, bacon grease, flour and a few other things. I'll have to ask her for the complete recipe though.Russ

mine is like rcannon's wife's recipe. I don't measure. i do by eye...
1 egg
+/- 2 c wheat flour
parsley (breath helper)
1 or 2 bullion cubes dissolved in 1/2 cup water or so.
a small dollop of bacon grease
mix it all together. if it's too watery add more flour, too dry add more water.
knead by hand and the roll out with a roller. Cut with a cookie cutter or a drinking glass. bake in 250 oven (yeah, low temp) checking every 10 or so minutes for it to be dry and slightly browned. keep in a ziplock bag or in an airtight container.~~ Missy ~~

Thanks for the recipes. I have been wanting to try this for a long time. Dog treats are very expensive to purchase and probably not as healthy as what I can make at home.
