Get a jump on cool weather-HOT COCOA MIX
I learned that making my own hot cocoa mix is definately more cost effective than buying pre-made stuff..plus i get to use artificial sweetner in mine and it tastes awesome! I get all my supplies from the Aldi store so it's very cheap to make, and makes a ton.
1 box of powdered milk
1 can of cocoa powder
1 box of artificial sweetner
or
1 bag of sugar
(cinnamon, nutmeg, or other spices can also be added if you like for a more festive taste)
mix 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to 1 1/2 cups of powdered milk
add 1/2 cup of sugar to mix, or sweetner that equals 1/2 cup of sugar..place in brown paper bag and shake well..keeps indefinately..you can also adjust the sweetness and chocolate flavor by adding more or less sugar and cocoa..
I picked up some decorative holiday/seasonal bags last year at Big Lots and made a few large batches of this..placed 2 cups worth in each bag, secured each bag with a fancy sticker and sold each bag for 4 dollars at craft fairs (along with my fabulous peanut butter fudge)..i made TONS of money and the cocoa was a big hit. especially the ones with artificial sweetner. I added cinnamon to some of the bags and labeled it "holiday cocoa"..it was a HUGE SELLER.
..i actually had a few thermos's and small medicine sized cups for people to try samples..the public loved it!

Thank you for this recipe! My dh is diabetic and loves the Nestle brand of sugar free hot chocolate which he mixes with coffee to make his own mochas. But I can only find that brand in one store which is 25 miles away. When I go there I usually stock up on 2-3 at a time - at $5-6 each!! But he has so few pleasures in life I don't complain.
I will definitely try this out - I don't know why I didn't think of it before

I make ours this way, and it is a HUGE money saver! Another idea for gift giving, is to put it in canning jars and give with some chocolate dipped spoons covered in crushed peppermint candies.
