Laundry Softener!
I looked for Calculations..but couldn't find it. Just finished a bottle of Suavitel, 15.2oz bottle from the $Store, today. Opened 3/24/10 to 7/6/10. I use about tsp per load. 2 people, about 6/7 loads a week.
I just made HM Laundry Softener..haven't tried it yet.
6c h2o
3c vinegar
2c (16oz) cheap hair conditioner
Mix all in a gallon pitcher & divide into bottles. I'm guessing 1tbsp per load. (My hair conditioner was a 15oz bottle) ((This made 2qt&2c softener. SO, I then poured it all into a gallon pitcher, stirred, & then divided it into bottles.)) The TOTAL cost--84c ..!!.. VO5 hair conditioner for 69c on sale & 3c vinegar out of a gallon=15c (2.38/gal). Smells good, too!

I'm feeling kind of stupid here, but I've only ever used the dryer sheets (can't hang laundry outside in our HOA). I am thinking about stringing indoor lines or getting dryer racks. So, how do you actually use liquid softener? Do you pour it in the water during the final rinse or do you put it in that indentation in the top of the agitator and does it work as well as the dryer sheets?

I've always added fabric softener through the 'fabric softener dispenser'. If there isn't one, just add it to the final rinse...or maybe you could use a 'downey ball'.
I think I'm gonna wait for feedback before trying this, although theoretically it should work...

I have a fabric softener cup in the center of my agitator, that I use. Unless you stand there & put it in the last rinse==I would buy a Downy dispenser, I think they cost over a dollar.

I currently use plain white vinegar as a fabric softener. I'm looking forward to reading about how this works for you!

I've used that also.
DH is an auto mechanic, so you can imagine how his work clothes smell...yep...just like oil and grease...I tried baking soda... arm and hammer detergent... de-greasers...hand cleaners...vinegar is the only thing that actually works to remove most of the odors from his work clothes...

I'm curious to try this.
I mostly use vinegar or Suavitel. That stuff smells so good.

I also use vinegar for my fabric softener. Works like a charm. I'm anxious to hear how this recipe does.

I have use my HM fabric softener now for several weeks. It's A-ok. I use a tbsp-more or less. Mine leaves no odor in clothes & no static if I use the dryer. The clothes from the line are the same .... I hope you will be pleased, too!
