How to make body wash from bar soap

Excellent project! I have lots of Ivory soap bars that I got on sale - plan to try this SOON!

I tried this with Ivory and it did not work at all. Let me know how it goes for you.

I made some yesterday with suave shampoo and epsom salt and used it this morning worked great!!!!

Possibly a silly question, but can I use this recipe with anti-bacterial soap? It's the only kind my hubby will use, but would LOVE to make it cheaper

I'm going to try this with Zest. I'm going to cut the bar up instead of grating. The grating probably gets it melted down faster but I'm a little lazy

Instead of grating the soap by hand I used my Ninja. I cut the soap into 4 pieces used the pulse action till it got to smaller bits and then zapped it till it was close to powder worked great!

i tried and it didnt work....the ivory grated stuff did not dissolve.....it became very soft and i tried to blend it but it still did not work....bummer as i have lots and lots of ivory soap bars.....

Better not to use ivory soap. I'm sure it would work great with antibacterial soap.

Ivory soap has no moisturizers so it won't feel the same as regular body wash will. Using a bar with shea butter as the original poster did will get you a better consistency.

I did a very similar thing using Softsoap bars to make liquid hand wash. You add a lot more water. I felt it didn't last enough through the shower to use as a body wash so I'll have to make a body wash batch. I just used larger bottles to keep the refill and added to the regular bottles as needed.

Tried this today with a bar of Pure & Natural and a couple hotel bars I had. I started grating but found it took way too long and made me sneeze...a lot. With half a bar left, I put it in a gallon zip-top bag and took the flat side of my meat tenderizer to it. 10 seconds later I had soap powder, no mess! The soap melted down nicely but there were some clumps, so I strained them out. I did add a bit of hair conditioner to it for scent and moisturizier. Hopefully it will work as good as I hope!

I find it easier to grate soap by hand if i warm the soap in my microwave about ten seconds or so. Also i now have a food processor so i warm the soap, shred it in processor, then put it back into processor and it makes it very small. I make powdered laundry soap with it, but i like the body soap idea.

This is great and so timely, I am just about to finish up my body wash supplies - I was using up all the litttle hotel body washes and what not. i have some nice soaps that I bought cheap at Christmas and planned to use them as gifts but I had put aside and promptly forgot about them. And as an extra bonus there is a good family movie on the TV tonight! Thanks for the info.

Hubby and I went to Target last night... I bought the 8 pack of Up & Up bar soap- the generic version of Dove Sensitive Skin. I just made my FIRST batch of body wash..! I grated two bars of soap, used 20 oz. water, AND added 4 oz. HEMPZ pomegranate lotion to the mix... It came out PERFECT!!! I made this for my little girls (5 & 2), because I am so sick of the expensive kids' body stuff, and my girls have sensitive skin. Seems to do the trick! Really well! I am overly excited about this stuff! THANK YOU! I can't wait to make hubby his own, and my oldest girl (11), her own, and MY own! LOL...
