Anyone make shoelaces?
DH uses climbing rope/cord to repair/replace shoe laces on his non-work shoes. Anyone do anything else? I'll post how to do this if someone's interested, as I have a pair of shoes I need to do this for real quick now!

I've crocheted or knitted laces for shoes to match dance costumes, prom dresses (for the guys) , or just for fun.

I use military parachute cord. You can find it at surplus stores. $4 for 25 feet. Its strong, 550 pound break strength. I melt the ends a little to keep from unraveling. Its anti mildew and rot so it pretty much last forever. my laces out last my shoes and boots.

SASHA'S SHOE STRINGS Crochet Pattern - Free Crochet Pattern Courtesy of Crochetnmore.com
Here's a pattern; and I think you could wrap crochet thread tightly around the ends for 1/4 to 1/2 inch (to make them stiff enough to lace up), and just stitch back through the last few threads, and draw the loose thread back inside the wrapped part.
