it is bad enough using the dollar store dish soap (suds disappear) without trying to make it myself!! I draw the line somewhere. DH tried to convince me to use mashed up bar soap but I vigorously declined.

How important is it that you have suds? This recipe does not suds at all but gets everything clean without making my son itch like crazy.
1 1/2 cups hot water
1/2 cup soap (I use a body wash I made with Tom's of Maine Sensitive, glycerin, and distilled water, but I think anything you like will do)
1 Tbsp. washing soda
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1/8 tsp. tea tree oil
I keep baking soda handy for anything that needs a little extra scrub.

Homemade~sort-of~Dish Soap
These recipes extend our products. While this recipe is not all orginal, it has definitely cuts cost without sacrificing Dawn's effective grease cutting power. Please bare with me through my explanation for dish soap...
I make my own 5 gallon laudry soap from 1 grated bar Fels Naptha, 2 cups Washing Soda, 2 cups 20 Mule Team Borax and enough water to make 5 gallons. Melt the grated Fels Naptha in approx. 4 cups water in big pot over med heat~ after completely melting, add the 4 cups of powders~ keep over heat, stirring until dissolved. Pour into 5 gallon bucket, add enough hot water to fill the 5 gallon bucket. (To satisfy my Tide obsession, I use half a bottle of Tide in it, too. It still save me money.)
NOW TO MAKE THE DISHSOAP~~~
I buy one big bottle of Dawn dishsoap (I use the dark blue)
Pour half of the Dawn into another empty Dawn bottle. (I have made 3 bottles with this~it still works, but it does make the Dawn's consistency a little more thinner. I prefer it to be a little thicker.)
Fill the bottles with the homemade laundry soap shake to mix.
Walla~ homemade laundry soap!! This recipe allows me to Double my Dawn soap without compromising the excellency of Dawn.
