Homemade skin soothers
Here are three kitchen-cabinet skin tricks that will leave your skin feeling - and looking - great.
Soothe a sun-irritated face with a mask made by mashing an avocado with 1 tablespoon honey, says Michel McDonald, M.D., assistant dermatology professor at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Leave the concoction on for 5 minutes, then wash off. Or blend a tablespoon of honey and 1/2 cup plain yogurt for a mask that can help take the red out of skin.
Reduce puffiness by chilling cucumber or apple slices and applying them directly to the skin. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
Moisturize your skin by combining 2 tablespoons plain yogurt and 2 teaspoons orange juice with 1 teaspoon almond oil. After washing your face, apply the mixture and let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse and apply moisturizer.
For oily skin mix 1/2 cup of lemon juice and a lightly beaten egg white with a handful of raw oatmeal. Apply the paste to your face and rinse off once the paste has completely dried.
