    Lightbulb Baby Wipes

The disinfectant wipes thread reminded me of this.

    The "correct recipe"
1 roll bounty paper towels (must be bounty)
    2 cups boiling water
couple of squirts baby shampoo or baby soap

Take the tube out of paper towels and put towel into a tupperware container. Apparently tupperware make a container that will hold a roll of paper towels. I just rip the towels off of the roll and put them into an old wipe container. Add baby shampoo to water and mix. Pour this over wipes and let sit for a few hours.

My kids are older so instead of using baby shampoo I use dish soap. I think it clean a bit better and it is cheaper. I would NOT use this on a newborn.

    Default These are wonderful...

I have a 6 week old DD and I am to the end of my first batch of wipes. I have a different recipe, didn't boil the water, but it was:

1/2 roll Bounty (these DO NOT fall apart, they are awesome)
    2 cups water
    2 Tbsp baby oil
    2 Tbsp baby wash

I'm going to make another batch today. I figure these cost me pennies to make as opposed to commercial wipes. Read some of the ingredients on the commercial wipes. What is that STUFF?? The paper towels aren't as thick, I like them better. My pocketbook likes them better too!

I found when I didn't boil the water they would smell mildewy. Maybe I was just making to many at once.

Thumbs up Making Cloth Diaper Wipes

Try to get pre washed fabric to avoid excess shrinkage prior to cutting.
Get any soft flannel fabric available in the sewing /fabric section (inexpensive / close out).

Wash the whole batch flannel in hot water and soap, and dry well. Make sure it is not to wrinkled, or you will need to 'coarsely' iron the fabric for easy cutting. This washing will pre shrink the flannel.

Make about 50-70 squares, from a 45" bolt of fabric get 90"-108" in length.
Cut them into ~9" squares and double fold (hide the raw edge) + sew the double fold.

Store them in a any old disposable diaper wipe container, covering them only with water (some folks make an herbal oil mix). We keep a few dry for clean up purposes.

Default Baby wipe solution and how to make your own wipes....

I made for myself some baby wipes that would be a great gift for a mom with babies or any child in dipes. I took recieving blankets and baby towels and cut them into the size wipes that I like( about the size of the baby washcloths you can buy---some people may like larger cloths) and I turned them to where the good sides faced each other and sewed them together(leaving a place to turn them back inside out so the good sides will show). Then I just closed them by sewing the little spot left for turning them inside out. I have a recipe for homemade wash that I will post at the end of this post. I like it a lot and it smells great. This gift is cheap, easy(cause I did it and I cannot sew for crap) and it is good for the environment. I use an empty wipe container to hold my wipes that I pour the mix on. I store unused wipe solution in the fridge....I love my mix and love the fact that I never need to buy wipes again( WOW! disposable ones are NOT cheap!). I can always just use water and a bit of baby shampoo if I have run out of wipe solution........no harm to baby or me!!LOL!

Hope someone likes this idea! It would be a good one for the archives....the recipe has a link to the girl's site that gave me the recipe. I see her all the time on the diapering board I go to....

    Baby Wipe Solution Recipe
Given to me by Heather at: www.punkinbutt.com

    3 cups distilled water

1/2 tablespoon Natural baby wash or Dr Bronners castile liquid soap

1/2 tablespoon olive oil, or almond oil

1 tablespoon 100% Aloe Vera Gel

3 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil (anti-fungal)

    3 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Mix and store to use as needed!!!

    More recipe solutions:

    Homemade Baby Wipe Recipes
What Do I Use For Wipes?

    Inexpensive wash clothes
Paper towel roll cut in half.
For Sewers: Remnant flannel pieces cut into wipe sizes.
Sew around the edges to keep it from fraying.

    Wipe Solutions

You can store these solutions in a spray bottle and spray it
onto the wipe at the time of the diaper changing or you can
store the wipes and the solution in the same leak proof
    container.

    Basic and Easy

    Homemade Baby Wipes
1/2 roll of paper towels (cut in half to make short rolls)
    1/8-1/4 c. baby shampoo
    1/8-1/4 c. baby oil
    2 cups lukewarm water
1 plastic container that the rolls fit in

Cut roll in half and remove center cardboard. In Baby Wipe
Container, mix liquid ingredients. and place half of roll in
container. Place on lid and tip upside down. To use, pull
    out from center.

    Herbal Solutions

The basic recipe for wipe solution will do good job of
cleaning your baby's bottom, but you may want to use a
herbal solution to add some extra soothing and diaper rash
    treatment properties.

The herbal ingredients that may be added to the solution
have different properties that help protect your baby's
sensitive skin and / or promote healing of diaper rashes.

Calendula -This herb commonly used to soothe the skin and
reduce inflammation. The herb is helpful for people who
suffer from skin rashes and sunburn. Calendula helps to
soothe inflamed tissues, reduce pain and aids in quick
    healing of cuts and abrasions.

Aloe Vera - The gel from the Aloe Vera leaf is great for
healing and relieving burns and rashes.

Tea Tree Oil - This oil readily penetrates the skin and is
useful for treating burns, scrapes, bites, stings, and
various skin irritations. It may also help to prevent or
treat yeast infections. Very effective fungicide,
    antibacterial and antiseptic.

Lavender - Lavender added to salves and creams promotes
healing and as an aroma additive eases tension, tiredness
    and feelings of depression

St. John's Wort - Helps promote healing and has anti-viral
    and anti-inflammatory properties.

Comfrey - Helps relieve inflammation and promotes healing.

    - Baby Wipes Recipe -

    1 1/2 - 2 cups distilled water
    1/4 cup Aloe Vera gel
    1 TBS Calendula oil
    2 tsp. Baby Shampoo
    2-3 drops tea tree oil
    2-3 drops lavender oil

Mix solution together, use to wet wipes.

    - Anti-fungal Baby Wipes -

    1/2 c. distilled water
1 tbs. vinegar (helps discourage yeast)
    1/4 c. aloe vera gel
    1 TBS. calendula oil
    1 drop lavender essential
1 drop tea tree essential oil

To prepare, use a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. Pour
all your ingredients in, cover the jar and shake to blend
the ingredients. Place your wipes in a container and pour on
enough solution to moisten them. Store any extra solution in
the fridge. It should stay fresh for a long time especially
    if you used distilled water.

    Rash Treatment and Prevention

    - Natural Rash Treatment -

Extra virgin olive oil that has been steeped with fresh
calendula. You can apply this oil at diaper changing time to
help soothe and heal the rash.

    To infuse calendula:

Pour the desired amount of Olive Oil or whatever oil you
choose into a glass jar and put calendula into jar and
shake. Place in dark place for 3-4 weeks shaking the jar
    every day or so.

You can also place the jar in a water bath (pan with water
in stove) and bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to a very
gentle simmer and cook for 1-2 hours. After infusion is
complete, strain calendula out of oil. A simple way of
straining the calendula out of the oil is to use a strainer
lined with cheese cloth. When all the oil has strained
through, be sure to squeeze the cheese cloth to get all the
    oil out of the calendula.

    - Baby Salve © Millie Fodor -
    1 part St. John's Wort
    2 part Calendula
    1 part Comfrey leaf
    1 part Comfrey root
    1 part Plantain
    Olive Oil
    Beeswax .
    Vitamin E

For full instructions on how to create this salve visit:
    http://www.wildroots.com/salves.htm

    - Fragrant Baby Powder -

    ½ pound cornstarch
    ¼ teaspoon lavender essential oil

Place cornstarch in a self-sealing plastic bag and add the
essential oil drop by drop. Tightly close the bag and shake
it to distribute the oil, breaking up any clumps through the
bag. Let stand 4 days to distribute the essential oil. Use
with every diaper change, or as needed. Potato starch or
arrowroot powder can be used instead of cornstarch.

Spice or salt shakers with large perforations in their lids
    make good powder containers.

Chris Anne’s Favorite Wipes Solution Recipe
1 Tbsp Apricot Kernel Oil (very healing and softening)
1 drop Lavender essential oil (calming scent)
1 drop Lemongrass essential oil (warming and purifying)
Enough distilled water to fill the squirt bottle
Always shake the bottle before wetting your wipe.

    Healing Lanolin Wipes
1/8 – 1/4 tsp. Lanolin (Lansinoh works fine)
1 drop Lavender essential oil or your favorite essential oil
1 tsp. Baby Shampoo or Castile Soap
Enough warm distilled water to fill the squirt bottle

Always shake the bottle well before wetting your wipe.

    Anti-bacterial Wipes Solution
1 Tbsp Apricot Kernel Oil or your favorite healing oil
1 drop Tea Tree essential oil (cooling, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral)
    1 drop Lavender essential oil
Enough distilled water to fill the squirt bottle
Always shake the bottle before wetting your wipe.
** You don’t even need to use an oil or soap, pure water is often all you need. However, oil does help remove poopies and adds a layer of protection to baby’s skin between changes.

I'm not sure how the cost difference really works out if I buy Bounty. i get my wipes pretty cheap anyway, I buy generic. I'll have to look at the unit prices and compare the towels to the wipes.

    Default Homemade baby wipes

I just made baby wipes and they turned out great and were so easy!! I cut a bounty paper towel roll in half. (saved the other half for the next batch) The recipe I found said to use a good quality paper towel that can withstand being wet. I used a old wipes box that I had kept. I heated up 2 cups of water til boiling in the microwave and put it in the bottom of the box. Then I added a little baby wash and it said you could add a little baby oil too if you want. I put the half roll in and turned it upside down (with the lid closed) over the sink for awhile so the liquid could sink in. After I turned it back up, I pulled the cardboard center out of the paper towels and the center paper towel started the wipes up thru the middle dispenser. They work great on bottoms and messy hands!! Just thought I would share. Amy

~I'm curious how much it cost to make these? I've always used cloth wipes at home and the cheapest disposable(100/$1) baby wipes while out. What kind of towels did you use?~
