Default DIY first aid kit vs. store bought

Is it cheaper to make a first aid from scratch than to buy a ready one from the store? I realized we need one for the car. I have a big Red Cross kit that I received from volunteering there so I could always take some stuff out of that one. What have you done for first aid kits?

I prefer to put my own kits together. I can't say that it's cheaper than a store-bought kit, but for me, it's vastly better. The pre-made ones I've seen have, in general, cheap tools and not enough or the right supplies for a family of 7 with young children. If I bought a pre-made kit, I'd end up taking it apart and adding so much to it that it's easier to start from scratch to begin with.

We make all of our kits for work (need 1 for each house and 1 for each car). The pre-made ones have always looked cheap to me and don't usually come with everything that you need anyway. Or not enough of it.

I've made my own for the house. I can't say I'm fully stocked up on anything, but I have the basics.

For the car, I found $2 kits that have a variety of bandages, alcohol wipes, and gauze. That's all I carry in the car right now, although I keep thinking I should probably carry more than that.

We usually bought one and distributed some of the stuff (alcohol wipes, antibacterial stuff in one time use packets, etc) among several other kits and added our own bandaids and other items. The one we bought was a big one though, and then we just refresh the things that expire on our own.

ANY store bought kit will never be as good as homemade 'cause the
maker must cut corners to make a profit. Making your own allow's
you to have more & better supplies for the same or less money.
