Homemade kitchen compost pail
On a few of the 'green' sites I'd found a cute little green kitchen compost pail and thought "I can make that!".
Supplies:
1 empty kitty litter pail (square with handle - 28lb size)
A drill
1 carbon filter made for litter boxes bought at wally world for $1.25
Steps:
Wash pail. Drill a circular pattern of holes through the lid. Keep the pattern of holes in the center. On the underside of the lid, hot glue on the carbon filter. Use small dots of glue, so you can remove the filter after 5 months to be changed.
There you go! Instant kitchen compost pail. Mine works great and it keeps the odors at bay until its dumped into the compost pile outside.
Paint it green or the color of your choice. Don't paint over the filter though.
Pictures are attached.

Great idea. I keep my compost scraps in an empty plastic ice cream container and take it out every day.

Totally awesome! I may have to substitute a 5 gallon paint bucket (millions of those around). Thanks for the great idea!

Great idea, Kickchk, thank you. Ours are currently used to store corn/feed for the chickens but the cats will see that there's another empty pail soon.

What a cool idea. I keep them and take them to my moms so they have to be in there awhile.

speaking of compost........................
I wanted a vitamix machine for a long time.... looked at them for at least 10 years.......... finally bought one from costco in december.
The reason I bring this up is because vitamix makes compost too.... there is a section in the owners manual on this.
The vitamix was expensive but its paying for itself.... in not only awesome smoothies, soup but it makes compost too.
Some things are more investments than others and I see the vitamix as an investment........
its also a compost maker.
