    Lightbulb meal ideas - help me brainstorm

    I have a list of things that need to be used up, help me come up with menu ideas....

    idaho potatoes, cabbage
    carrots, onion
    cherry tomatoes, bell pepper
    lime, turnips
    lettuce , apple
    swiss chard , beets
    cucumber, poundcake
    hot dog buns, hamburger buns

    chicken thighs, rib tips
    pork shoulder, boneless sirloin
    smoked beef (small amount)
    hot dogs

    I also have a well stocked freezer with any kind of meat imaginable in it, but this stuff needs to get eaten first. A lot of the vegs are coming from my garden and I am running out of refrigerator space!

    I'm thinking...

    great big garden salad
    hot dogs
    beet salad
    pork shoulder bbq sandwiches
    cole slaw

    Any other ideas?

    You could do a stir fry with some of the veggies and chicken. A cp meal with the pork, potatoes and carrots.

    Pound cake for breakfast.

    Random thoughts off the top of my head:

    * Veggie cabbage rolls? Instead of meat and rice use very seasoned veggies and mix a tiny bit mashed taters
    * asian style chicken in lettuce cup wraps
    * stew with the sirloin
    * veggie stew/ragout
    * stuffed taters with a veggie sautee
    * baked/steamed/stewed ribs or chicken in oven with veggies & tomato juice/sauce
    * pot pie'ish type casserole - layered veggie/meat dish - lasagna
    style.
    * big salad w/sliced steak or steak and salad
    * pork shoulder, with salad and mashed turnip/apple
    * sautee the greens to go with a meat & tater dish
    * juice some of the beets, apple, carrot and tomato
    * veggie subs on hotdog buns

    Can you use the excess buns to make a bread pudding or croutons or just for garlic toast (dinner) or plain in the am's?

    Shred equal amounts of cabbage, carrots, turnips - mix well and steam until crisp/tender. . .add salt and pepper to taste and serve with garlic butter drizzled over.

    When you've done a cp pork shoulder, retain some and mix with BBQ sauce - that will make pizza for another night with some of the veggies, perhaps.

    Another way is to do a kind of hash meal. Cook and chop some of the potatoes, mix with some cooked veggies, smoked beef and chopped hot dogs and mix up some tomato paste or puree, add some herbs and perhaps a bit of garlic and let it cook for a few minutes. I love throw-together meals!

    Well, with the boneless sirloin, lime, tomatoes, onion, bell peppers--make fajitas. Serve with refried beans, shredded lettuce/cabbage mixture, diced tomatoes,, and homemade tortillas.

    With the chicken thighs, onions, carrots, turnips, celery, and garlic--make chicken stock for chicken stew/chicken soup/ chicken and dumplings/chicken casseroles...

    Pickle and can the beets for a side dish or addition to salads.

    Rib tips--marinate and grill.
    As the tips are grilling, cook "camp-fire potatoes on the grill too. Add a super sized salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and whatever else looks good...could even add some of the beets.

    Hamburger buns...no problem...place a couple slices of either thin sliced turkey or ham lunch meat on bun, top with a slice of cheese...heat up the grill pan, melt butter and make a grilled cheese and turkey/ham sandwich. Serve with apple slices or an apple crumb.

    Pork shoulder--make bbq or pulled pork...cook it with onions--make sandwiches with it or have it as a main course without shredding it-slice it...then leftover can be shredded and used for sammies...serve it with cole slaw--(cabbage and carrots) and fried potatoes and onions.

    Serve the pound cake as dessert with any of the meals...

    The swiss chard can be added to soups...veggie or cream based. ((not sure how to cook it or to use it except in soups...))

    Hot dogs and hot dog buns--grilled hot dogs with mustard slaw-made from the cabbage, onions, and carrots. Serve with home french fries. (potatoes)

    With the smoked beef--make a hash with potatoes and onions...maybe even add shredded carrots...

    Potato's O'brien --Onions, bell peppers, and potatoes fried together makes a great side dish.

    **Don't forget about stir fry, fried rice, pot pies, and casseroles...just throw everything in that looks good and cook...
