    Default Need Some Peanut Free Ideas!

    My son is going to day camp this summer and it is a peanut free camp. He needs a lunch and 2 snacks everyday. I need some ideas on what to send.

    these are the restrictions:

    -nut free
    -no access to microwave or fridge, so everything must be non-perishable
    -my kid doesn't eat meat (he never has, doesn't like the texture)

    aside from fruits and veggies what are some good peanut free items to send? i've got to do this for 4 weeks! i can't send granola bars every day for 4 weeks...i'll have a revolt on my hands.

    thanks in advance!

    ps. we have little cooler packs so i could send those...but i don't know how good they would work and i would worry about them getting lost.

    * Would he eat bean dip for say veggies? There's some protein.
    * How about sunflower butter? I think it is DELICIOUS and it's a very simple protein exchange. Soynut butter is a great exchnage, but I don't care for it ( my kids LOVE it!) They are a little pricey, but convenient!
    * Cheese cubes?
    * Cottage cheese?
    * Yogurt?

    Hope these help!

    Oh, and freeze juice boxes (not my preferred drink as they are a lot of waste) but they do make GREAT cold packs that get consumed!

    do you think the yogurt and cheese would be okay if it's not in a fridge? i guess it would last until morning snack at least.

    i'm not sure about bean dip...he likes beans but usually they are whole and in soups.

    did i mention he's kind of a picky eater? lol

    Can he take sunflower or almond butter?

    The yogurt is probably ok in a cooler pack, it will be resistant to spoiling because it is sealed. I wouldn't try that with cottage cheese.

    What about those little cheese cracker packs? They are pretty dry so the "cheese" won't spoil.

    Small home made muffins? In paper wrappers they are sturdy enough to not fall apart right away.

    Processed packaged dip cups for veggie sticks. Not something you want every day, but I know at least Hidden Valley has a shelf stable ranch dip.

    You can also freeze yogurts and gogurts to be used as a freeze pack.

    does it change the texture of the yogurt much? i know if things don't look 'right' he won't eat them. that might work with those yogurt tubes though...because you never see the yogurt in those. lol.

    man, when did i end up with such a picky kid?!

    Yup, they're marketed for the peanut allergy crowd, and formulated to be allergen free. And technically, they are both seeds, not nuts. I don't know if your picky kid will like it, but I think sunbutter tastes a lot better than peanut butter.

    It doesn't really. Try them at home first. Just freeze a gogurt or two and tell him it's a popsicle.

    We also have a picky eater at our house. And we have had to learn to creatively name things to get him to eat them.

    I only buy the name brand if I have coupon + sale but our local grocery has an off brand version that's pretty good.

    hummus, whole wheat bread, veg

    tabouli
    11% gross to retirement
    10% takehome to tithe and offerings
    emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
    freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

    i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
