Any little bit of green/garden you can grow is great - herbs in a window planter, tomatoes in a patio planter, etc. I had a small city-sized lot when I lived in Berwyn, but I just started loving nature so much, I felt like I needed it to be happy and fulfilled. But when I was younger I spent a lot more time in the city, so that was important to me. Now, the quiet country life is my thing - birdwatching, wildlife watching, canning, cooking, freezing - I love it and am deliciously happy.

I used to live in Chicago, near Marquette Park until we move to unincorporated Will County just outside of Lockport in 1999. I don't miss the city at all. I was raised in Burbank, so I was used to more space between the houses than in the city. What I don't miss, especially this week, is the on street parking during the winter.

I'm on just under a 1/4 acre and I love all the space compared to the city lot we were on. I have a good size garden that will be expanding again this year. I also love to cook, bake, and can/freeze/dehydrate anything from the garden and my fruit trees/bushes.
