Ft Hood anyone?
Anyone here with family members at Fort Hood? DH's niece called home last night to say she and her husband are ok. Prayers to all those with loved ones involved in this horrific act. I hope they put him in front of a firing squad!!!

My friend and her hubby transfered out of Ft Hood. I still am just in shock that it happened. I can't even thing of a bad enough punishment for the shooter. Death is too easy maybe.

No family members but the nurse tech. (I think he was....the older guy) that was killed; had a sister that lives here.
AND.......an 18 y.o. guy was from Post Falls.....neighboring city. He was shot three times, I think they said. The family said he had called them on his way to the hospital and said "some guy has gone crazy. I am shot, on my way to the hospital, but I will be alright" MG........can you imagine getting a message like that from your kid??? He was due to ship out to Iraq in Jan.
THOSE POOR FAMILIES!!
Will be very interesting to see what they uncover in the investigation.

Nobody there presently that we know, but my DH had friends stationed there when he was active. What a horrible situation. The one place you would think you are the safest. Not only are the families that were directly affected the ones that I feel for, but the entire community there. I'm sure it has devestated everyone on that base.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all of them and their families. He should have croaked when he was shot. Now we'll support him for the rest of his unneeded life.

I thought about this every time I passed a half-staff flag today.
This loser had his entire education - college, med school, all of it- paid for by you and me, the taxpayers. He finally gets done with his residency and fellowship (which totals nearly 12 YEARS of schooling at our expense), they ask him to go and use that knowledge (not shoot a gun, mind you, just meet the emotional needs of the ones who do) and he does this!!

We are not stationed there and thankfully dont know anyone who is. I will keep my opinions to myself as I dont want to be kicked off the board other then to say it doesnt matter that he was an officer. Officer or enlisted should not do this

I realize that I have some age on me but I don't remember all these mass killings when I was young. These people should not be and yet they happen along more frequently as time goes on. I don't understand .

Nor do I and the more I try to 'analyze' and think about the 'why and wherefore' of it the more confused I become.
At what point did we head toward all the hate that is displaying itself today........around the world......not just here! HERE is what we hear about but it is everywhere........UGH!

Yes they did happen in the past. No the American public did not know about them. My Dad was in the Air Force in the sixties and stationed in Europe. There were several incidents similar to Fort Hood's at that time period however not to the extent as Fort Hood, as commonly it would involve only three to five soldiers.

Although, I am sure this type of thing
did happen in the past; but as often? Back then we had 3 channels, 5 if we were lucky! after moving the antenna.... (by golly I feel OLD).
Along with the birth of technology came 24 hour news channels which I believe became hard for the "uppitites' whoever they might be to control the output of what is being reported, now a days it happens, someone texts, calls someone and the news is there immediately. There really is no time to quash it before it is reported.
But you have to wonder if the break down of the family unit has contributed somewhat to how society has turned out. Everyone is so focused on what we have, want, "need", not many people/families are focused on today and our immediate family needs (true needs), personal connection. The family today almost runs like a business, fast, rush rush, do the task so it will be done......(even if it is just dinner!).
I am rambling......technology has brought a lot to our lives, and I would not want to live without it :-), but sometimes I wonder at what price...... Next time you are out to eat or at a family gathering, etc.... look around at how many of the people (including adults) can not put down the cell, ipod.... it is amazing..... and it is my personal feeling that we have not even hit the tip of the iceberg with "desensitized" humans....

My nephew (by marriage) is based there, He's in Afganistan now. However, my niece and her new babe were both in that very bldg last week! We had 3 soldiers killed that were from our area. It's appalling that our "family" is not safe in our own country.
