    Default Don't Forget---GI BILL!

As some of you may know, in addition to being a military spouse, I was also a member of the Army Guard. I was able to use my GI Bill to supplement my college costs. I had (mistakenly) assumed that Zac wouldn't use his G.I. Bill benefits because he has no real interest in going to college.

Imagine my surprise when he reminded me of the apprenticeship and on the job training benefits. Between his time at the police academy, his field training program, and his probationary period at the PD, the VA has paid him almost $6,000. All tax free.

There have also been changes made applying to the Post 9/11 GI Bill. For the first time ever, benefits can be transferred to a spouse or children. This will come in handy for the kiddos college, if Zac doesn't use anymore of his benefits. Below is the site with more info.

Transfer of Post 9-11 GI Bill Benefits

Don't forget let your servicemember forget about his/her benefits. Even if he/she can't benefit from them, your family can!

It's unfortunate that the benefits don't apply to those who just got out a month before 9/11 happened.

It's $49k down the drain. Ahh well.

My husband's benefits will be going to my son. I love the fact that they offer the transfer to family members because it may be the only way that we can afford for my son to go to school.

That is exactly what we did. When we found out that he could receive the GI Bill while going through the police academy, we jumped all over that.

    Super great benefit.
