Emotional but beautiful!
A family on my block recently lost their son in Afghanistan. All the services and memorials are over.
But some veterans got together and decided to pay their respects by riding by the familie's house on their motorcycles. (they do this quite often for families) They all sign a flag and give that to them, along with a plaque honoring his service. They did this all today and there had to be AT LEAST 75 of them.
They went by the house twice. 75 bikes, in single file, all with an American Flag flying on the back of their bike. It was really pretty! I stood on my porch with tears running down my face! (almost everyone on my block was out in their yard)
I didn't know the family.......but you don't have to. The worst part is that he left a wife that is due to deliver their first baby in Sept!!

That is so sad. But I love what they did for the family and I can just picture it. A beautiful thing they did. Oh I feel for his wife.

What a beautiful tribute - mahalo for sharing.

Thank you for sharing FF. I cannot imagine the pain and heartache that his entire family must be going through right now. To lose a son, a husband, and for that poor baby that will be born never knowing his/her daddy.
I am so thankful that there are people like the motorcycle riders in your area that will pay tribute. It's a wonderful thing to do.McD

Thanks everyone. It was a beautiful sight to get to see but I can still 'almost' cry when thinking about it.
The baby is a boy and she is going to name it after the father.
Think it is called the Motorcycle Honor Guard.....does anyone else have it in your town? It is a neat thing.

FF---I believe it's called the Patriot Guard. They sprang up all over the U.S. as a way to combat the nastiness of a 'church' that protests at the funerals of soldiers. I love them. They were at hubby's send-off and welcome home ceremonies with the Iraq deployment. They met them at the border of Iowa and escorted them home. Wonderful people.

Yep, that could be it. They escorted the casket from the airport too. They showed that on the news. Not as many as went by the house but still a lot. Still get 'weepy' when I think about that sight last weekend.........very impressive!! (though a sad story)
Forgot to say that the family bought a bunch of smaller American Flags on little sticks and put them in everyone's lawn all along the street. Mine is still there.........looks pretty neat going down the street.
